RE: Sun Belt Power Rankings - Week 4
I'm torn on #1. But even though it was a 17 point win over GSU and Coastal is 4-0 vs JMU's 3-0, Coastal has also looked bad against bad teams more than once so I gotta go with the more consistent team so far. Plus smoking MTSU is looking a lot better at this point.
1. JMU(+1)
2. Coastal(+4)
3. App State(-2)
4. USA(-1)
5. Troy(+0)
6. Marshall(-2)
7. ODU(+2)
8. USM(+4)
9. ULM(+5)
10. GS(+0)
11. stAte(-2)
12. UL(-1)
13. GSU(-6)
14. Texas State(-1)
Some decent movement from the Coastal/GSU game since it was an emphatic win to go 4-0 and since it's hard to keep on thinking a team is better than their winless record. Solid jumps from USM and ULM after I had them in the basement and they picked up solid wins. Other than that, starting to feel a little more settled in to where every game doesn't mean so much movement. No need to drop App and Marshall hard for losing to good teams or move up GS or TXST for wins over Balls Tate and Houston Christian.

RE: Sun Belt Power Rankings - Week 4
Originally I had 3 groups but I decided to go with a straight 14 to add some spice to my life and cause some eye rolls…maybe…
1. Coastal Carolina (4-0 is 4-0. Getting it done)
2. James Madison (was 100% FBS ready)
3. South Alabama (if only they had beat UCLA)
4. App State (1 conference loss but could still probably beat anyone on any other night)
5. Troy (defense wins championships and we are very close to being 2-0 in SBC play)
6. ULM (their defense looks legit and they just beat the defending SBC champs)
7. Georgia Southern (Who would of though of them being an Air Raid team but they look pretty good)
8. Old Dominion (solid but not great)
9. Louisiana (still good but new coach = growing pains)
10. Southern Miss (inconsistent but finding their stride)
11. Arkansas State (just too inconsistent and the late game coaching from Jones is pretty bad)
12. Marshall (QB issues galore and extremely 1 dimensional. Defensive coverage was suspect. ND game looking like a fluke)
13. Texas State (A win is a win)
14. Georgia State (0-4 so morale victories mean nothing)

Top 10.
After 4 weeks of football, I think we now know what we have. App will be on the bowl bubble this year at 6-6 or 7-5 with two FCS wins if they continue to play inconsistently. Have yet to put 4 quarters of football together in any of the games so far. Record last 6 games: 2-4. Horrific trend and not Appalachian State at all.

Just out of curiosity, do you vote in the coaches poll or the AP? 13 just beat 6?

RE: Sun Belt Power Rankings - Week 4
Hey, I thought the West was supposed to be so far behind the East this year. It doesn’t look that way, so far. Looks like both sides are up for an epic battle to the finish line. Isn’t this great? I’d say three way races for both sides.
East: JMU, CC, and AppState
West: Louisiana, USA and Troy
Of course, I’m holding out hope for my Herd to be relevant at the end, but the last two weeks don’t inspire me with any real confidence.

RE: Sun Belt Power Rankings - Week 4
Four weeks in I'm willing to rank the teams based on what they've actually done so far. Several of the Rankings above show this board has the same issues with preseason bias as the real polls, as no one should have UL in the top half of the conference at this point, no JMU outside the top two spots. Extra space between levels amongst the rankings.
1) JMU - Undefeated and unimpressed with the FBS. MTSU looks good now and they handled winning at App.
2) Troy - Already played their East teams, got the toughest draw (based on Preseason) and the new coach came a batted down Hail Mary away from making JMU's win not look so good.
3) Coastal Carolina - I'd understand CCU being higher, but they've been inconsistent. End of year they might would beat Troy, but to date I think Troy is better.
4) App - Played the two I have 1&2 and split them, but it feels like they should be 0-2. The talent is there to win it all.
5) South Alabama - Only one good opponent so far and they lost a close one there. Doing what they need to do.
6) Marshall - All the talent in the world, but back to not being a cohesive team. Second coach there with this issue, is there a deeper issue with the program?
7) Southern Miss - I wish we were 3-1, but 20-2 is better than I expected and both Liberty and Tulane are better than I expected. I really want to rank them higher, but over whom? Several teams below could be here instead.
8) GA Southern - New coach has them playing well. How good are they? We will see. Next week is a barometer.
9) ODU - Defense is stout, but O is questionable. Consistent, but not good. Next week against Liberty could jump them up the poll with a win.
10) ULM - Losses to Texas and Bama. Wins over bad FCS and bad UL. No idea what they are yet? Battle Arkansas State for this spot next week, then first real chance to move up the following week against Coastal.
11) Ark State - Might be a middling team, might be a bottom rung team. Only win is bad FCS.
12) Louisiana - Humbling year for UL fans. Hopefully the team and coaches grow this year and do more with the talent next season. Could still win the Division, but hard to menially get over losing to Rice and ULM in back-to-back weeks.
13) Texas State - The Nevada loss is why they are so low. Could be a middling team or take over the basement. Next week against JMU should be ugly.
14) GA State - No wins. 0-4. Charlotte is the only bad loss, as they had a tough OOC (no FCS games) and just played Coastal. Definitely have the talent to move up, but the only winless team has to have this spot. Beat Army next week and move up the rankings!
