The problem is that they have not been very good, consistently, the past couple of decades and have lost some fans. When SU has good seasons their tv ratings are usually better than most ACC teams. Back in 2017, Clemson vs SU was the highest rated ACC game of the regular season. Im old enough to remember from the late 80's to 2001 when almost every SU game was broadcast on a major network.

Also, not to be overlooked is the fact that the Wall Street Journal of most valuable schools list of 2021 had SU listed as the #6 most valuable program in the ACC. And thats with 20 years of mostly bad football and mostly mediocre basketball the last 10 years.

WSJ List

I like Syracuse. It makes no sense that Rutgers has a Super 2 spot and Syracuse has to sweat it.

Neither does it make any sense that the B1G and SEC tolerate legacy programs that are either perennial bottom feeders or from low-rent, small market areas.

What SEC or B1G school is from a low-rent, small market area? Miss and MissSt bring a whole state as they are the Flagship and Flagship equivalent of the entire state. Vanderbilt is in Nashville. Northwestern is in Chicago. That pretty much covers everyone in both conferences.

As far as being perennial bottom feeders, that will stop when there is a draft for the talent coming in each year. And with players becoming employees, I expect to see plenty of washed up NFL players coming back to college teams.
