You know Memphis needs to play Houston every game. They would win the national championship this season.

This team has heart but aren’t world beaters

depends, its really all about matchups
we have a weakness against elite shot blockers...but not every great team has elite shotblcokers (look at us last year)
smu, memphis and houston is a perfect example of matchups and why it matters
--- memphis is disorganized and can easily be rushed... smu is really fast paced and attacks them in transition, which is why memphis cant beat smu
-- smu is small, so houston can harrass them on the rebounds and post offense
-- houston is a slow paced team, that scores mostly in the post, Memphis is a huge team with endless supply of shotblockers...houston allows them to set up their defense becuae we are slow paced

interesting is the 1st game houston wasn't physical the defense didnt look good--gave up easy points
tried to play physical this game ... most of the team was on pace to foulout by halftime..had to play the last 9 game minutes with deep bench players

Ya, that designation changed when the instant we lost Sasser and Mark. Seems a lot of folks are forgetting that fact because the Coogs continued to roll after that. But I've said this before, our chances of making a bigger splash than last year flew out the window when we lost those 2 guys.
Doesn't mean the Coogs still aren't good, we're just not as good as we could've been.

RE: *** Basketball Gamethread (3/5- 3/6) ***
So, assuming this score holds and Memphis wins ... it may seem counter-intuitive but I would think Memphis would be rooting for SMU tonight so SMU gets the 2 seed and Memphis gets the 3.
Reasoning? - The Friday game for the 2 seed is the winner of the 7/10 game (which is WSU vs likely Tulsa). So while i'm sure Memphis would LOVE to play Wichita Friday, it would likely mean SMU would be waiting on Saturday as the 3 seed will play the winner of the 6/11 game which SMU hasn't lost to all year. But if SMU is the 2 they have to play Wichita most likely and Wichita has shown they can beat SMU. So Memphis could get the 6/11 winner, then Wichita on Saturday instead of SMU which would basically be a walk into Sunday for them. Basically whatever Memphis can do to avoid SMU. Getting to Sunday basically guarantees not being in the First four IMO. While an earlier loss might drop them to first four.

I’m not scared of playing smu again. The home game we lost to them was when we were going through our injury/bad chemistry stretch. Road games **** happens sometimes. Could they beat us a third time? Sure but I really don’t think it’s some crazy bad matchup for us.

Next year we’ll have the talent and depth to match up with Memphis. I still think we make it deeper in the tournament than Memphis does. As these players try to make it all about them with a little success (see pre season hyped Memphis) penny will lose control of the team again and they’ll play individual and won’t make it to the second weekend. I’d enjoy being proved wrong on this cause I don’t want to lose by 20 to a first weekend team lol

Nobody on this team besides emoni has really “played for themselves” and he isn’t coming back.

4 games in 8 days. Memphis is a really good team, but with the limited depth with the two injuries I kind of saw this one coming.

Well, outstanding showing by you guys today and good luck in the tournament. Congrats on working your way in and congrats to penny for not letting the outside noise mid way derail the season.
Houston will be fine

i kinda expected this to, we mostly score by fabian and carlton bullying people in the post and memphis isnt the team to try to bully in the post, so i wasnt expecting us to score much
but turnovers and foul trouble were the disappointing part...we gave them too many easy points of turnovers

Also have we ever won when Jim Nantz calls ? Lol. Poor guy rarely gets to call our games and I feel like we lose every time he does

Well Jamal Shead needs to understand he is the driver of the vehicle, the other guys do not create their own shot. When he is aggressive goid things happen. He needs to split double teams but he tends to give up the rock.

So 1 extra game...
Surely you won't win the tourney with 3 games in 3 days...You know...Using your logic.

We won the Memphis game Nantz called two years ago just before the shutdown.

Memphis is a bad matchup for Houston...
Not only this roster...But their style of play.
