Hey let them puff out their chest. They handed it to us both games this year. And it's been a while since they had something to brag about in March. Unless you count their NIT dominance. And if I'm keeping it real, I'm not itching for a third meeting this year with them.

Like pesik said, it’s not you and a few others. It’s the typical bandwagon that only shows up when the sun starts to shine.

Every fanbase has that. Pop in when they can gloat. It's the sign of the times.

As for Memphis we've taken a lot of heat for how the season has played out. It's been a roller coaster ride of players not getting along, stupid coaching moves, injury's, not meeting expectations.

A lot of the fanbase has been waiting to exhale. Been a weird season.

When people look back on this years from now, they will realize what a great job Coach Hardaway has done with the program. He's only in his third or fourth season as a Head Coach, and every one of his teams has had a winning record, and he has already won a NIT championship. Not many Head Coaches in NCAA history have done as well as he has.

He may end up as the greatest coach ever.

But if someone says his first 4 years were great that will definitely be revisionist history.

RE: *** Basketball Gamethread (3/5- 3/6) ***
i want to point out something... i just went to the memphis forum, there is a long thread about Sampson, and they are all saying its Sampson's fault for playing players 33-37 mins vs temple if they were tired...

what aren't memphis fans getting that we didnt have a choice

we have 5ish total guards on roster:
- jamal shead
- kyler edwards
- taze moore
- ramon walker - true freshmen coming of wrist surgery - not ball handler

- ryan elvin- 160lb walk-on freshmen

- robbie armbrester- an undersized power forward true freshmen, that the coaches hope to develop into a wing (few guard skills now and barely plays)

there is no other guards on roster (this list includes all walk-ons)

------------
in the temple game taze moore had foul trouble ..
it was also only a 13 point game will 11minutes left in the 2nd half and temple isnt some scrub team

DEAR GENIUS MEMPHIS FANS-- please tell me how you would have distributed the minutes, especially with taze in foul trouble
(note robbie played 1st half minutes something he hadn't done all season- in an attempt to rest players)

you are throwing out the elvin, robbie, ramon lineup for extended minutes, even though none of them are ball handlers and none are scorers?? in a 13 point game vs a decent team? please point out your genius, how you are smarter than Sampson

I suggested many games ago that Houston should ease up on the gas for the overall good of the team. I thought Sampson was running the players into the ground.

Replies I got were (paraphrased); Sampson only plays one way, pedal to the metal.

Isn't it at least possible that following that advice could have cost us the conference championship?

There’s really no alternative. You drive that beast until it’s out of gas. I predicted an inevitable collapse at some point long ago and based it on the year SMU played much of the conference schedule with a six man rotation due to injury. We played a lot of zone that year. We played walk-ons infrequently. We died an ugly death. There’s simply no alternative.

Sampson should have convinced a walk on like Tyler Harris to join the roster.

Up 23 with 9 minutes left
Up 30 with 7 Minutes left

Kyler Edwards and Sheed in the game up ~40 with 2 minutes left.

Your saying you couldn't have taken them out earlier.

so who runs point? between the walkon and 2 freshmen who all lack handles and cant score and poor on defense..

also temple pressed throughtout the game, and every guard they have is good on D..
23 points in 9 minutes is ALOT of time ...30 point in 7 vs A LOT of time when you know they cant dribble ...

the logic you guys have is ridiculous to me
... houston blew out cincy earlier in the year, that was actually a blowout from start to finish... we had 3 players still over 30minutes and other with 28, and 2 of them had bad foul trouble...every game it is guaranteed we will have multiple players over 30...

You did pretty well last year not winning the conference. : )

Real talk - the loss of Sasser and Mark for the season pretty much ruled out any chance of a return to the FF. The goal this season became the conference title and the dance. So far, so good.

I agree with this. I'd be surprised if we make the second weekend this year.

You did pretty well last year not winning the conference. : )

Real talk - the loss of Sasser and Mark for the season pretty much ruled out any chance of a return to the FF. The goal this season became the conference title and the dance. So far, so good.

I'm content with how the season played out. 3 title in four years. Good chance we'll win it again next year. Now we get to see how the postseason goes.

Replies I got were (paraphrased); Sampson only plays one way, pedal to the metal.

Isn't it at least possible that following that advice could have cost us the conference championship?

I agree with this. I'd be surprised if we make the second weekend this year.

Let's see the draw first before we abandon hope lol
