The NIT was always going to be the aspirational goal for anyone who was looking at this roster honesty to start the season, and while they won’t make that, it wasn’t light years away. It’s slightly disappointing, but that’s all I’d call it. It’s supers easy to forget just how much of a disaster things were when he took over.
This season’s expectations got off the rails the way they started the year. I saw UC fans try and contort their way to this being a competitive roster before the year, but that always seemed far fetched to me. We plugged the roster with stop gap players, and while taking a few too many multi year guys appears to be the case, the opportunity to remake the roster is still very much there going into year 2.
Ask, They weren’t 13-19, they are 17-12. Some of the good things they did this year don’t disappear because they’ve struggled at the end. As for hope, that’s entirely dependent on how this roster looks when they tip off next year and how the ‘23 class develops. You can’t start trying to argue there is no hope before we see how those things turn out first. Wes is clearly building this up the slow way, for whatever reason, so you have to let his process play out and see what it looks like by year 3. Like I’ve said all along, we’ll be able to see whether things are working by then based on everything he’s tried to do since he got here.
Trying to sell this as some massive failure year 1 with no hope is silly, and just a narrative to try and rile up UC fans.
but he had time to fix it.. he was an active coach we hired and already been in the recruiting swing.. the literally best aac transfers were all just recently in the portal when he was hired (jalen cook, vance jackson etc..)... lets not act like anyone but miller liked the hansley, mcginnis additions..his roster talent is partially on him..transfer portal
and what worries me is that uc fans are putting too much hope into guys that haven't committed in 2023... the 2023 class is "the hope" some optimisitic uc fans have.. visits means nothing...what happens if they dont commit???
Except he didn’t just have a roster/talent issue when he arrived, he also had a massive locker room problem, and some of those guys were supposed to help mend that. We had so many problems, we didn’t have one player to build off of once Tari left. Most semi decent one year turnaround teams at least had something to go off of.
This was a reset year. I’ve said it all along. I’ve been consistent for the most part throughout the entire year. Next year you want improvement, and then 23-24 you should have the entire roster turned over. Then we’ll know what we have here.
All I’ve said is that the ‘23 class is important to the roster turnover. I’m not counting on needing certain guys. We don’t need Top 50 players in order to improve this roster, far from it. Those guys that are visiting are just bonus. If we land a couple of those type, then you are talking a different ballgame in regards to our roster.

Announcers just said "This is a bludgeoning! Houston is cleaning up on SMU!"
Talking about offensive rebounds. I guess "dominating" is a bit of an understatement at this point so he chose "bludgeoning". lol

They’ll always have that one up in Moody.

One of the things I’ve always respected about Memphis is their quality depth on their cheerleading and dance teams.

Is it just me but,... after watching the Coogs play, and then watch another AAC game and it just feels like both teams are just taking it easy the whole game, almost trying hard to not break a sweat?

Happy to be kicking some Shocker butt today...but, truth be told, the conference needs the Shockers who dominated their prior conference and not the Shockers playing for the AAC basement.
