What are your thoughts on the TRANSFER PORTAL...
Curious on where AAC members stand on the Transfer Portal currently.
The Transfer Portal combined with NIL money seems to have created a lot more volatility.

It is what it is, and from a freedom standpoint I am all for it, but Navy will always only lose players (as will WP and AF). Kind of a bummer as we have enough difficulty competing for talent, but whatever.

I’m fine with it. Kids should be able to freely move just as coaches do. Gives kids a second chance elsewhere. It also makes the coaches job to keep his own players happy and be able to re recruit others that they might have missed first time around.

RE: What are your thoughts on the TRANSFER PORTAL...
My opinion: Overall is good. Player empowerment is good.
Even with the 2022 numbers looking bad for UCF. I am still pretty supportive of the transfer portal. UCF 2021 transfer portal added Bowser (UCF leading Rusher), BigKat (UCF Sack leader), and Brandon Johnson (UCF 2nd leading WR). UCF's 2021 team is lead by a lot of transfer portal additions.
2022 has been rough losing Dillon Gabriel (UCF Starting QB), Tatum Bethune (UCF leading Tackler), and Titus Mokiao-Atimalala (True Freshman WR and return specialist).
One of the more tragic stories has been Bentavious Thompson. He left the team in August. Didn't officially hit the transfer portal till October. Still sitting in the portal today. He's talented but he entered the portal mid season and it just seems like he's sitting around.
A lot of the guys leaving UCF weren't on the 2-deep. A lot of this might still be coaching transition stuff. DG wanted to be with OC Lebby. Bethune wanted to be with DC Randy Shannon.

Transfer portal is a euphemism for free agency.

RE: What are your thoughts on the TRANSFER PORTAL...
Can only speak for our team, but it seems like it's been a net positive so far. Apart from a couple of QBs that did well elsewhere, we haven't had a player transfer out that has set the world on fire. Based on the players that have left, it looks more we've used it as a way to gently nudge fringe players off the roster.
Again, there have been exceptions. We had a DB transfer out this round that was a decent nickel, and probably would have seen more playing time if McMillian goes pro early. We also had our starting long snapper transfer to LSU last week.
All that said, I wouldn't trade those for the players like Ryan Jones, Audie Omotosho, Justin Chase, Avery Jones, etc that we've brought in.

It's going to make the G-5 a tryout league for the P5.

I can see recruitments going like this.. "We really like you but we think you need a couple more years. Go take that scholarship at Marshall. Play for 2 years and if you continue to progress we will pick you up in the portal"

RE: What are your thoughts on the TRANSFER PORTAL...
I'm of the opinion it will let more p5 bench riders transfer without penalty. Probably plenty of talent who never got their shot because one dude who is just a little better was at the same place same time.

If schools can change conferences, coaches can change schools before finishing their obligations, so why not players? Not ideal but what goes around, comes around.

Overall it is and will be a good thing. Right now it's complete chaos because of the free year of eligibility the NCAA gave everyone for covid. So you have an additional years worth of players in they system looking and competing for positions. Once again the NCAA acts without thinking.

Big fan. Huge!
Our coach seems to know how to get everything he needs out of it. We filled a ton of needs and grabbed depth all over.
It’s gonna be a game changer for G5 schools. Kids don’t have to sit for years waiting to play at SEC schools. I think it’s gonna spread the talent around a bit.

Really finding about transfer vs Letter of intents. Letter of intents will not matter. The same teams will be in the playoffs every year unless the money changes. I still think that SMU could win with the new changes and leave TCU in it's rear view mirror. It sucks that SMU was punished for what it did.

RE: What are your thoughts on the TRANSFER PORTAL...
I can only judge by ECU but so far for us the Portal has been a measuring stick of where the program is. The players that leave tend to move lateral or down so obviously leaving for playing time which means we are not losing great talent. It also means P5 programs are not putting out feelers to recruit our players which means we are not recruiting well enough.
I think if you have portal players moving up you are probably doing well. If you need a whole bunch of portal players coming in it probably means you are trying to put out a fire. If you can upgrade a position the portal is great.
