Understandable given that almost every one I drive by on the way to work have signs up stating "Help Wanted - $13.50 an hour for kitchen workers, 17 something for shift leaders".

well after 30 years, its not that hard to imagine why they are going away.

Dang, used to love the dollar menu back in the day. No surprise it is going away with people now demanding $15/hr to flip burgers.

In undergrad, I used to get the $1 double cheeseburger from McDonalds, and would have them add the Big Mac sauce to it. It was free to add, until they wised up and started charging $.25.

When I was in school we had Burger Town across the main entrance into campus. Burger fries and a drink was $2.99. When we got out of baseball practice after 6, when "The Commons" closed, the whole team would go over there. The burger was like $1.29. Would get a combo and an extra burger for less than $5. If I had extra scheckels on me I would get a chocolate shake also. Was never a reason to ever step foot in a McDs. No one in my family would even drive near a McDonalds. Gross. Oh and the ice cream machine is always broken.

Gotta tell me why I care. I don't eat out much, and on the rare occasions when I do, I won't eat anywhere that has a dollar menu.

I lived on the cheesy bean and rice burrito from Taco Bell for lunch. Not because I couldn’t afford anything else but because they were like fast food crack for me.

Bwahahahahaha, I was being sarcastic. Lazy people will not go near a stove and fix a meal, it's easier to go through the drive thru.

While eating fast food isn’t cheap and its certainly not good for you, eating healthy at home is even more expensive. That makes it even more difficult for poor folks to eat right.

I can only speak for Metro Louisville but vegetables are expensive here more than half the year. From October to May fruits and vegetables are trucked or railed in.

In the late Spring, through Summer and early Fall, you can get locally grown produce reasonably priced but that source isn’t available all the time.

In some of the urban neighborhoods around Louisville there are “food deserts”. Many of the corner markets don’t even have fresh produce sections.

It’s going to be a tough cycle to break when generation after generation of poor families have celebrated payday by taking the kids to McDonald’s for a Happy Meal.

I’ve read that Taco Bell is probably the healthiest “fast food” restaurant out there.

I haven't seen a dollar menu in at least 10 years. Must be a location based program because I don't see them anywhere.
