Bravo, Memphis!

If Houston spends like they are going to win a national championship in football and basketball, Memphis is matching.

Let the American build more champions.

Anyone who gets their panties in a wad over this needs to lighten up.

Maybe Penny should put his money where his mouth is.

College athletes usually mirror the attitude of their coach. If Penny WASN'T saying that they are going to win a national championship, I would be concerned.

You have to fully believe that you are going to win it all if you want your players to buy in.

The public predicting of it sets himself up for failure and ridicule pretty easily.

I usually agree with what you are saying. However, seeing at it is Penny Hardaway saying it, I think that he knows what he is saying and that it serves his recruiting goals.

His team doesn't have to win it all. But, if they flop at all, then you will be correct about him setting himself up for ridicule. Anything less than the Elite 8 has earned him ridicule after that statement.

He also guaranteed a win at Cincy last year. This is just his MO

I’m more puzzled about this poster running their mouth in a basketball thread. I guess that first ever NCAA win last year is going to his/her head.

His comments are aimed directly at his players and, perhaps more importantly, future recruits. The jury is still out on his coaching ability (although he certainly did well last year), but the dude has surrounded himself with a solid staff and he's pushing all the right buttons publicly. He's great for this conference.

On a Wednesday at the beginning of October, sports talk shows, fans of other programs, message boards, and other media outlets across the nation are discussing Memphis basketball and the chance of them competing for a national championship....
