Wow. That was rational.

I don't pretend to know particulars. BUT you both needed to reschedule for a 12th game, ECU elected to play NCST instead, so in all reality I do not blame VT for being a little salty. They ended up playing a tougher Marshall instead for a bowl shot, again not the best situation for them. In return they, with no leverage, agreed to a 1-1 series with first game played in Huntington, so being salty from their point of view is warranted.

VT wanted to wait and see if they beat UVA to figure out if they needed a 12th game for bowl eligibility. NCST of course also had their game cancelled with WVU and needed a make up game. It was a chance to make a little money for hurricane relief. VT is salty because our AD did not wait around like a good little G5 for the pat on our head and be ready to jump through hoops to make sure they won their 6th game for a bowl.

My vote was no game as the season was long since over and we needed to fire Mo and move on with a new coaching staff and not worry about a game on December 4th . I would agree the optics of the NCST game was not great and probably pissed off VT.

Bottom line is VT fans were never happy that their previous AD signed a home and away with ECU for a decade. On this I agree with VT fans. I was not excited seeing ECU and VT playing every year for 10 years straight. I would rather have a 1-1 or maybe 2-2 deal. We have had VT on the schedule for so long it is no matter that big of deal. It is a nice OOC game but I am more than read to move along and get some new blood on the schedule. I would rather play Marshall or Southern Miss for a while as we also have history but again I don't want Marshall and ECU to sign a 8 year deal or Southern Miss.

I agree that the home and home series was oddly long, although I've enjoyed most of the games. Babcock cancelling the 3 Greenville games and stating, “If East Carolina still wants to come up here and play we will happily host them", is totally low class and embarrassing for an institution with which we have had such a long relationship.

Obviously it would make no sense for ECU to travel to Blacksburg under these circumstances. It's just time to move on.

VT AD is like a punk ass kid on the playground wanting to have a pecker measuring contest. He felt wronged because ECU did not wait around on VT time table to cancel a game when a potentially historically devastating hurricane was heading our way. He then wanted ECU to wait around for VT to pull of an OT win over UVA to get to 5 wins and need the 12th game. The NCST game was available and we pulled the trigger on that game which I disagreed with. We should have waited to play VT or not played at all. Our players did not show up for NCST with an interim coach so it would have been less painful to see them mail in the effort vs VT rather than NCST exact revenge for two ass kicking's in a row vs a pathetic ECU team.

VT wanted to put it to ECU and they have by cancelling a home game for us next year. This late there absolutely no options for ECU to schedule a home game in 2019. We already have Gardner Webb and we will be looking at that level of a team for another game. There are no quality G5 options at this point much less trying to desperately scramble for a P5 replacement.

Play 1 away game and leave not one ACL intact. Even the AD should be out for the season.

RE: VA Tech cancels games at ECU
It may be irrelevant, but Gilbert was the AD at S Miss when VT was trying to arrange the 12th game with S Miss. About midway through the season the Roanoke paper had S Miss being the high choice for a makeup game. The most recent article linked indicated Marshall as the last choice. S Miss and VT obviously couldn't come to an agreement. The end of our season, Gilbert said S Miss wouldn't be playing a 12th game because of some BS (injuries over the season, etc).

At the very least, the VT AD is very familiar with Gilbert.

He has 2 options:
1: opt out of the Blacksburg games and likely kill the ECU VT relationship or
2: play the games in Blacksburg in hopes of rebuilding the relationship.

VT really doesn’t need any more exposure in NC. VT is also one of the better P5 schools to play at a G5.

Lol. Not true at all. There is a contract in place. I absolutely guarantee the remedy VTech has announced is not what’s defined in the contract.

Contracts almost always have buyouts. VT wouldn't 'opt out' of those games if they contractually couldn't.

Definitely didn’t know specifics, that is low class by VT. WVU does us that way and is why we don’t play them anymore. We (Marshall) did leverage them though if it makes y’all feel any better but something has bothered me since we played them. I felt and still feel we threw that game to help them out. USF, FIU, FAU etc were more talented teams this year and we go there...well anyone that saw the game knows the result. It’s not an excuse for a loss, just something wasn’t right about the game as soon as the whistle blew.

Screw'em. We should cancel each game at Blacksburg the day prior.

Just read that VeTech scheduled another FCS team for next year. Now they have to win 7 games to be bowl eligible. As bad as they were this year, they might not make it.

And as I said earlier, someone has to be the adult in this situation and it needs to be ECU, and clearly that’s the case. Cancelling our road games there would further weaken what has been up to Babcocks hiring, a very long and good relationship. We should let him throw his tantrum and follow through on our end regardless.

No, take the high road. Make the public announcement next Wednesday (12/26) that all the future games @Blacksburg are being cancelled.

No I'm sad ECU is an embarrassment to the league in the only two sports that matters.

It would be one thing if there were any signs of improvement but there's not.

There is no way in hell we play out the road games. There will be legal action from this and it will take quite a while to resolve, but the series is dead for a long time.

The only sign you need to see is Coach Houston running out of the tunnel instead of Coach Mo.

Since VT cancelled games @ECU in 2019, 2023 and 2025 and has to play Marshall in 2023 and 2024, VT has 13 games scheduled for 2024. ECU should buy out the 2020 and 2022 games but make VT buy out the 2024 game.

VT can easily move one of the other OOC games in 24. It’s often done.
