RE: Aresco: No GOR Plans; No Tiering of Teams
It took him 24 hours to set the record straight with that? My guess is that it became very clear that certain schools would never sign away their rights to the AAC. Hence the statement now.

well then... 5 or possibly 6 million a year per team... will be the next deal. 8 million is pipe dream with no GOR.

That is my guess. Around 4.5 to 5 million. GOR has zero shot.

I think you're being too optimistic. The little exercise that took place yesterday proves to the networks that we're no more solid or structured than we were 5 years ago, and therefore still worth our current rate.

With GOR was probably 6, without is probably 2.5

RE: Aresco: No GOR Plans; No Tiering of Teams
Didn't Aresco go to some length explaining that a GOR doesn't technically prevent a school from leaving, it only means the conference keeps their TV rights? Sounds like the kind of defense of a GOR he'd make to a skeptical AD, and the Memphis AD didn't exactly shoot that down yesterday. My guess is they actually have discussed a GOR, although I don't expect one to get approved.

I can only make limited comment on any of this right now. We're not asking our schools for anything right now," Aresco said on Sports 560AM/87.7 FM with Wolo and Peter. "We're in a position right now where we're just talking about a lot of different things. I don't know where this stuff comes from. I really don't."

This whole business of grant-of-rights is very poorly understood, generally," Aresco explained. "It doesn't mean schools can't move, it just means their TV rights go with them. What it means, Dave, is that if someone leaves, their TV rights remain with the conference where they once were. If your TV deal is with X network, it stays. Every game you play in that other conference that's a home game stays with the conference you left. Whatever TV deal that was. That's a strong incentive for schools not to leave. It doesn't mean you're bound, period. That's not the kind of situation that it would be."

"Unequal sharing (of revenue) is not who we are, period. It just isn't," the commissioner said

LOL at that GOR explanation. You can still leave with a GOR... I mean...it just means you lose all your TV rights.

Right...see UCF you can leave but your rights to the Big 12 games stay with us. I'm sure you will still get invited. Wink, wink...

And now we wait for the break up of the Big 12 schools in five years or so.

See? It doesn't stop anyone from leaving, it just means you don't get TV money if you do, which if you think about it isn't much different than the status quo anyway, so why not sign? Right?

RE: Aresco: No GOR Plans; No Tiering of Teams
So if the AAC has a TV deal with ESPN and a team goes to a conference that has a deal with Fox, does the AAC still get that game?
