I remember the 2014 game. First ever FBS opponent in Boone. It was a day of celebration for us FBSers. Then the game happened in the freezing rain. Still the worst loss by App to a Sun Belt team.

Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway near Boone from Blowing rock to Deep Gap.
If not cold and windy go to Grandfather mountain.

It's Homecoming so dinner reservations are a must.
Bistro Roca in Blowing Rock
For a culinary experience go to The Gamekeeper. near Hounds Ear CC
For a gastro challenging meal go to The Daniel Boone Inn.
Sunrise Grill or Melanies for breakfast.
Lost Provence if you like craft beer
Appalachian Mountain Brewery if you like craft beer with throwback atmosphere.

Have y'all been to Artisanal? I went earlier in the summer and it absolutely blows the Gamekeeper out of the water. Highly recommend it.

Ya gotta make the 8 mile drive to Blowing Rock. Geared more towards adults. Lots of very good eating options. Downtown is very laid back and an absolute pleasure to walk the streets and drop into shops.

Arkansas State had a lot more talent back then.

04-cheers

Crazy to think we have only lost two home Sun Belt games in 4 years. Wouldn't expect anyone to challenge for a 3rd loss until Troy in Novemeber but South definitely seems to be the best of the other 3.

I skipped over some of the posts but I did not see anyone mention Pepper's Restaurant. I don't really drink much so I will not comment on that but they have a bar. More importantly the owner is an App alum from the 1970's and get the Jean Lawson.

If you want to do something just a bit out of the norm and you are spending the weekend in the area then drop in on Dark Sky Observatory. Tickets are free, but let me know if you can't get tickets due to being at capacity and I get you contact info for the professor that does this outreach. He may work with someone coming from that far away. Dark Sky is the largest observatory in North Carolina and sits on the edge of the mountains. This area is not Southwest US dark that are old friends at NMSU have but it is one of the darkest spots on the east coast that is near a university that deals with astronomy.

DSO is just north of the Deep Gap exit on the Blue Ridge Parkway that someone mentioned up the thread. The road off the Parkway is a narrow winding dirt road that is super fun in the dark (and maybe a bit scary) for those used to flatter areas. And there is a reception area away from the telescope that is heated if needed and they have restroom facilities.

Website for DSO tickets https://dso.appstate.edu/public-access

Edit: Tickets are NOT free to observatory now. There are some costs involved in the ticketing system and this also helps with no-shows since they have committed with some $. This is a policy that started since the last time I visited myself. It is still worth the expense in my view. Then again I enjoy astronomy.

Here’s some bulletin board material:

"Appy State's a great football team," South Alabama coach Steve Campbell said

Appy? Come on dude...

Yeah, I don't see that as bulletin board material but he should be better than that... Using the two terms that will annoy App fans. Someone send him a program that shows the correct terms and pronunciations.

LOL. Don't take it out on the coach. Heck, he learned it from the Jag fans. That is what a lot of fans call Appalachian State around the conference. It's like other SBC fans refer to South Alabama as "South Al" and Jaguwars. It is all in fun, but when sports announcers do it, it stings a little. It's all good.
