Dang it!! This was the "final nail in the coffin" game for our domination of CUSA this year.
Hope it gets played at another date if possible.

Yeah, I think the only forecast Southern Miss was concerned about was the ESPN win probability forecast. I’m not holding my breath that they will agree to any proposal to reschedule this game.

The game could've been moved up to 12 PM. With their lack of a run game and App's offense being built around the run, even a little rain wouldn't be to their benefit.

They have no motivation whatsoever to reschedule an almost certain loss. The local MS article I read suggests they may look at the end of the year... I assume if they need another win to make them bowl eligible. Southern Miss leveraged this deal to their advantage. We were putting game day parking signs out on campus yesterday so you know where our mind was at.

Gameday parking signs, testing main and ribbon scoreboards and replacing burned out stadium field lights. We were expecting a football game, and So Miss didnt want it, plain and simple.

I did find it a bit odd that App was all-out prepping for a football game this week, only to cancel...
I still don't see why this couldn't have been played sooner.

It likely wasn't App's decision. It seems that Southern Miss likely concluded that they couldn't travel safely so they opted to cancel the game. I don't have any insider information but that's the only reason I could think of. All fans and the team could be out of town before any real rain comes.
If App can play a game against Western Illinois in blizzard like conditions, with wind gusts well above what is forecasted for Boone from this hurricane, they can play the football game. The fact is that Southern Miss didn't want to play the game. Weather in Boone can be extreme during the winter yet it rarely impacts operations of the University; it is an accepted fact during the winter that it will snow, and at times the wind will blow up to 60 mph, yet no one bats an eye.

I’m not making excuses for USM, but it’s very possible this is travel related, especially if they’re flying to Charlotte.

There are other solutions to the travel issue. They could've moved the game to Thursday, could've moved it to Friday. Could've traveled out of the airport that App partners with on a chartered flight if necessary. But again, Western Illinois played in Boone, in December with blizzard like conditions and was not worried about travel.
The storm, as bad as it's being billed, isn't going to impact inland areas so much. The worst impact will come a week from now when all of the run off starts making it's way to the coastline.

They were flying into Hickory on a chartered flight. That’s a fact. I’m sure we offered an early kick at noon to soothe them and other options. They asked for a delay in the return game to this year so they could take a money game and we granted them that. Now, They ditched us under the guise of a storm 350 miles away and tell the local press that 10/6 won’t work because it’s too close to their conference slate and that a reschedule possibility is “slim”. They are a sorry bunch. Period.

This is essentially a bye week. Playing the game at a later date shouldn't be an issue. They could've flown in tomorrow, stayed in Boone, played them game at 12, been back to the airport by 5:30, and been out of the state before the storm ever gets inland. Shoot, they could've even moved the game up to Friday evening. I know it isn't a conference game but a peer opponent in an out of conference game should be looked at in the same light.
I tend to think that you're correct. If they had beat ULM I wonder if their reaction to the storm would've changed.

Nah, y’all going to go back and forth forever on that. Let’s just wash our hands of them and move on. We did them a solid last year and now they don’t want to reciprocate. F’em.

My understanding is Southern Miss wanted to play this game to better prepare for conference play. I've never heard of teams looking for ways to not have to play a football game. Southern Miss definitely isn't thanking God they don't have to play App St. No disrespect intended to App St.

University line is both parties decided not to play the game. Others say App offered to move the game up and USM said no.

I've never heard of teams looking for ways to not have to play a football game. Southern Miss definitely isn't thanking God they don't have to play App St. No disrespect intended to App St.
Yes you are as it would likely be a huge L.
As why it got cancelled until I hear from the actual decision makers it is all rumor and hearsay.
Sucks for the conference this would likely be the last nail in the coffin for CUSA being without a doubt the worst G5 conference this year. Hopefully USM finds a way to get five wins and needs this game later on.

They're going to have a hard time convincing me that they didn't look at Miami ducking us in Jonesboro and decided to use the same play book. That's why it is SO important to hold these teams accountable (as we are trying to do in court) for the payout or the game.
