I can’t imagine what it will be like to sit outside in February in Salt Lake to watch a football game.

There is a lot of competition in the city for fans entertainment dollars with NFL, MLB, NBA, MLS, and now AAF.

Seems like Raleigh or Norfolk would have made more sense since they're both large cities in the region without pro football, but hey maybe it will work.

RE: AAF in Atlanta?
I was surprised they put teams in current NFL cities, ATL and Phoenix. I thought they would go to under serviced cities, and I think more in the midsize cities would actually work better. Something a “small town” can get behind.

Now to see what kind of teams they assemble, might be interesting.

Riley also coached the San Antonio Riders of the World FB League.

Cowboys great Daryl Johnston has been named the GM of the SA Franchise.

As this league is coming in with a decent TV contract with CBS, it may have a pretty decent shot at sticking.

Do ya'll reckon these teams will create some US players that can actually qualify for the World Cup?

The could do as well as the current USNT..... 03-banghead

If the league out how to dip into the NFL pockets and be an actual minor league system, they have a shot on sticking. Right now the NCAA is happily filling that roll.

So NCAA soccer is more akin to minor league baseball than it is to college football/basketball? That's intriguing.

Looks like facilities was one of their high bullet points.

RE: AAF in Atlanta?
the Alliance really has encroached where the XFL had teams originally established (memphis, birmingham, and orlando)

Wonder if XFL will try to compete directly by establishing their own teams there again or in close proximity

Not if they're smart . . . XFL 1.0 was a failed experiment. If they want XFL 2.0 to succeed, they won't want to try to establish a new league/product against a similar league in the same town/market.

I was just wondering what "minor league" soccer is........ is it like football with college being the "minor league" or baseball where there are teams that draft without a college education? Are the "minor" teams like farm teams?

Well, minor league soccer is essentially the USL and its divisions. Which is tier 2 and 3 in the US soccer system.

The XFL, in all their wisdom, wants to compete with the NFL, so their teams may be in NFL cities.

. . . and that's fine, as long as they're a Spring league and not in direct competition with NFL games.

I still believe it would be a mistake for them to go into AAF towns and compete head to head with another Spring league while trying to get established.

So AAF is southeast and west, XFL is Midwest and west. No reason for the XFL to go into Jackson, MS. If one of the leagues would get the NFL blessing and play at HOF stadium, that wouldn't be bad.

XFL won't go to St. Louis for the same reason the Alliance league couldn't. The Dome is actually booked during February, March and April with conventions. That is convention season and the Dome is part of the convention center.

If the CFL would ever try south of the border again, St. Louis would be perfect for it. Not much activity in the convention center game during the summer and early fall.
