They are asking fans would they rather be FCS or FBS. Despite being a Little Rock fan for 35 years (since I moved here), I have my doubts that LR would support football. Overall, I simply think Little Rock is an awful sports town, who won't support anything unless it has a hog on it (even then they only support a winning team).
Just an example. A number of years ago, LR got a team (Arkansas Rimrockers) in the "new" ABA, a joke of a league that most of you have probably heard of. The team signed a bunch of washed up, ex-razorback players most of whom hadn't played organized ball in awhile. The team advanced in the playoffs, as other teams folded, and they had to pay some team to come in here for the league "finals". Overall, the team drew real well, and I believe drew something like 14 to 15K for the "championship" game. The owner saw the league was a total joke as he never knew if other league teams would show up for thelr scheduled games. Anyway, he moved the team to the NBA Developmental League. Obviously, the top minor league in the US, and just a step below the NBA. So now Little Rock had a team made up of actual young talented players in a legitimate league associated with the NBA. However, no washed-up razorbacks allowed. Of course, no one showed up and the team folded within a year or so.
That survey will indicate the number of people who like the idea enough to click on a survey to say YES. I already know someone who is gung-ho about saying YES on it and will never attend a game.
Pretty sure we know what the result will be.
We also know that UALR fans will prefer FBS over FCS.
Might as well do a poll on who would like to have a Laborghini.
UALR also knows this.
So I don't think its a legit attempt to find or predict actual numbers of supporters. Its more of a way to have some positive, but statistically meaningless, numbers to wave around in favor of UALR football.
And that's ok. Any school that wants to move (or not move) is going to hire people to generate a study and polls that provides cover for their decision. It is pretty normal.
Based on how they are presenting it, it seems like UALR intends to move and is gathering its CYA material.
But I'm still not sure how they think they are going to pull it off and/or what the real motivation is behind it.
I guess I've followed Arkansas politics too long to take it at face value.
