I would be disappointed if we are so weak at OL that a freshman-however talented-vied for playing time. I've been watching WMU football since 1973 and the only true frosh I can recall getting real playing time were Gary Vanderweele in 1984, Paul Hutchins in 1988 and of course Keenoy at Center.

Vanderweele was thrust in late in the 1984 season owing to major injuries in the OL. Hutchins got some spot duty in 1988. Keenoy started, but we were really shy at Center that year.

We should have plenty of depth in the OL where we don't need to use a freshman and blow his redshirt season.
Since 1973, you also haven't seen a 4 star OL like AJ Reed sign with Western. So, we're in uncharted waters with this freshman OL.

Reed was more highly recruited than Keenoy and Okorafor combined.

Nah. Okorafor had some really big time offers, they just came later in the cycle than Reed's.

RE: 2018 Roster
Okorafor did have schools coming on hot towards the end of the cycle, and he racked up 7 P5 offers according to 247. Keenoy had no P5 offers, just a couple of MAC offers.

Reed had at least 11 top-tier P5 offers before being committed to Penn State for about 7 months.

You do have to remember that Fleck didn't do anything good while here. After all it was his inferior recruits that went 6-6 last year. 05-stirthepot

RE: 2018 Roster
So I just realized that there are currently only 9 seniors on the roster. Harris will make 10. And only 3 of them are on defense.

Such a young team, just like last year.

Those Fleck classes were talented but many of them didn't stick around.

So 5-7, 4-8?

5-7 sounds about right, so yeah. Hope I am wrong though.

I think we should be about 8-4 given our schedule.

4-8 ?

You do realize this isn’t the NFL. There’s this thing called graduation, and other teams actually graduate players too. That’s why NIU hasn’t won the last ten MAC titles. So even though we graduated players, other teams did too.

Signed,

Mr Rogers

Really? Other teams graduate players?

So in the first four games. At best in my opinion we are 2-2. Happen to think we may be 1-3. 4-4 in conference and boom. We are 5-7. Not sure we are any better in any position group than WR. QB play should be better too, but the rest is a crapshoot, and given our complete lack of ability to field a healthy roster at this point. Why is this opinion so off base?

A year under his belt. Tons of injuries last year. An easier schedule this year. Taking the reins of offensive playcalling.

If Lester can't improve in the win column next season, he's a bum.

RE: 2018 Roster
A winning record and bowl game is bare minimum, that much is obvious. Even 7-5, which isn't spectacular, would be reasonable and indicates a path on the up.

I'm thinking 2-2 OOC, then 5-3 or 6-2 MAC.

Speaking of OOC, while Georgia State is no automatic W, it won't be a good sign if we lost that one.

He is a Hoosier. And it is a sheep skin from his States flagship university. It’s name may mean or do more for him when his eligibility is over.

We're going to be pretty good if our 2nd or 3rd string tackle is transferring to a Big Ten school.

Indiana is comparable to a good G5 program.

Indiana is comparable to a good, mid-tier, G5 program.

And yet we have never beaten Indiana (five tries under three different WMU coaches including one game in Waldo).

Probably because they have players like Zenden Dellinger.

but I agree. Any fan acting like Indiana isn't better than us is just not paying attention to history

Indiana is on the down slide. Gonna be rough in Bloomington for several years to come.
