Also, who are we going to replace it with? Prarie View A&M and Jackson State?
Amen! I do not support canceling the series against our biggest game and biggest rival. We've lost out on natural/traditional rivals as we've passed between dance partner conferences. I've posted this before, this intra-City rivalry is unique (Philadelphia has some good ones with the Big 5: Villanova, Temple, St. Joe's, Pennsylvania and La Salle) and it is a selling point/brand/recruitment interest to other markets. Folks talk about it down here in my neck of the woods.

I agree with this. If mick and Bohn could make the osu series permanent and then add home and homes with A couple of teams like Purdue, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Illinois. Localish teams I’m sure people would be fine dropping Xavier. Or somehow find ways to schedule home and homes with WVU(should not be that difficult) or IU and UL(both down right now). We have found a way to schedule with OSU and UCLA so don’t tell me that IU and UL are impossible.
Or for the millionth time use the damn UA association and schedule Some other UA schools, plenty of decent ones to get fans excited.
I kind of doubt WVU happens as long as Huggins is there. It brings up a lot of stuff that I doubt either Mick or Bob care to deal with. I could see the Louisville series starting up again now that Pitino is gone. Cheaters or not, I would love to play them again. I would also like to play some more series with Pitt, even if they do suck right now. Notre Dame is another I would like to see, even though it seems like Mike Brey had our number in the Big East.

Actually, it would be more hilarious to play XU every year and beat them. Mick needs to find a way to motivate our guys to consistently win that damned game and thus oblige XU to beg off the series.
Well of course beating Xavier every year would be the best scenario.
However, I'm making 3 assumptions:
1. Mick is staying here for life
2. Mick will not deviate from his strategy of treating the Crosstown Shootout like every other game
3. Xavier's program will continue maintain or grow their program for the foreseeable future
Given those 3 assumptions, it seems inevitable that Xavier will continue to own us for a very, very long time. Anyone else who is deeply concerned about that must realize that we either need to demand a new approach from Mick, or a new coach. Thus, I would rather cancel it until our coaching situation changes... otherwise, Xavier will quickly gain the all time lead in the series. That should be avoided at all costs IMO.

Agreed on all accounts again. Right now the game is just an embarrassment most of the time. I think UC could do it and win the PR game if they schedule some good regional home and home series while canceling the X series. We could effectively “big time” Xavier to avoid the embarrassment of ducking the series.

It would be one and done. Each team can only play in one tournament during the regular season, so this would be it for these 4 programs (no Maui, Atlantis, Cayman Islands, etc.).

I'm tired of reading this tired old excuse. Let's give Mick the benefit of the doubt and assume that he prepares for "every other game" with the intent to win. If he preps for XU in the same manner, then he also must do so with the intent and desire to win. A coach should strive to win every game no matter the opponent. Failure to do so would be grounds for termination.
When we lose to Xavier, it isn't because Mick lacks passion or the will to win.

It wouldn't count towards the 4 exempt tournament games. As an example, Notre Dame this season played in both the Maui Invitational and the Crossroads Classic (Indiana's version of what we're trying to do): http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketb...ting-irish

No doubt. It's the only game where you ever see him get really fired up and seemingly gets a T more often than not. This year he even went after a guy after the game. Given the results it's reasonable to question the approach but lack of desire has nothing to do with it.

I'd be fine in having it rotate between Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland. Leave Dayton out as a host city. UC vs XU in Columbus actually might be interesting. Maybe we wouldn't need wear flack jackets at Cintas Center anymore.

UC needs to play OSU or Dayton in this...not XU. The UC/XU game belongs in Cincy as a separate entity.

Agree...
Huggins has made a big deal about scheduling NKU...to spite UC. WVU has even played over at BB&T, which when you think about it says a whole lot when you have a B12 team agreeing to play in your house when you're a program that was D2 up until five years (or so) ago.
I can't see a WVU/UC series happening any time soon.
I have always said that I'd love to see UC rekindle with some of our old BE conference mates. UC-Pitt would be a natural. UC-Villanova would be amazing. Hell, I'd even settle for a UC-Syracuse tilt.

Eleven Warriors (Ohio State site) did a piece on a hypothetical Ohio Classic today. Being hypothetical, it isn't really feasible, but there does seem to be quite a bit of support among the Ohio State fan base about an annual classic that at least involves Ohio State, Xavier, Dayton, and UC.

Ohio State fans I know (including some in my family) support this concept and I think the fact that university coaches and administrators are discussing it bodes well for something to happen in the near future. I'm still rubbing my eyes that we have a home-and-home with the Bucks starting next year. That just wasn't possible up until now. Credit to Ohio State for opening that door...

Ohio State football fans - many of whom are townies - can be ridiculous. Basketball fans - primarily alumni - are rather reasonable. I think they also realize that they general don't compete with UC and X for recruits. I'm glad that a new coach came in and effectively insisted on playing UC.

We've come a long way since the Bob Goin "deal" post Huggs when we played the Greg Oden led #4 Ohio State team. At least it was on a neutral floor.

That's the only way this deal works. There is no way Cronin would agree to play a neutral site mini tourney in Columbus every year. The problem is where do they play it in Cincinnati? US Bank Arena is such a dump...seriously, the Nederlander Group has screwed Cincinnati royally with their ineptitude. If only our city leaders had the foresight to make PBS a dome, or you know, the ability to read a contract would have been nice as well...but I digress.

Maddening. Can't even dream about having events here because there is no where to have them. How does that happen?

Love the comment in that article saying that UC did less against lesser competition over the last two decades. Does he know that we played in the Big East, or not?
