Folks in Indiana might feel as betrayed as Vols fans did with Kiffin.
Apparently it was fake news anyway. I think TN is a great place to coach, with lots of money and great facilities, and a winnable division, but dang if at this point I wouldn't want to work for this administration. I'm just hoping we can get a coach. Give interim Brady Hoke a chance but put a stop to this mess.
Yep, there are stories now circulating refuting the announcement on the Knoxville radio station that broke the announcement. So right now there is nothing concrete on this matter.
But in truth hiring Vanderbilt's head coach to serve at Tennessee is essentially the comparison to Purdue. Why not Northwestern? They've been consistently better than Purdue for quite some time now.
Clay Travis rumor: Deal was done, chancellor wouldn't sign it, Currie had to go back and ask Brohm to take less money, he said no.
Clay Travis should be sued for his part in stirring the backlash against Schiano. I think both Schiano and Tennessee should sue him. If someone at UT is leaking information to this putz then they need to be relieved of their duties, or if they merely have a source within the athletic department then that employee should be fired.
There's your problem at Tennessee!!!! Clay Travis should never know what the heck you are about to do or what you just attempted to do!
And an important side note: Once Tennessee had a source saying they were willing to give John Gruden 10 million a year and another 8 million for his staff do you seriously think any of these good coaches are going to come for less??? Does Tennessee think someone else is going to take less than Brohm was offered??? This is a huge dysfunctional crap storm that is blowing up in Knoxville and it screams for a housecleaning!!!
I find Clay’s hypocrisy especially galling in this matter. For someone who preaches resisting the Twitter mob and how that crowd doesn’t represent the population at large, he is sure proud of his actions over weekend.
I didn’t like the Schiano hire because I felt it was a repeat of Butch Jones. That said it would have been better to cast ire at AD Currie than what has transpired . Tee Martin may be the only viable option left and IMO he is not ready for a job like UTK. Rocky Top has out crazied Aggie fans, scaring off Sumlin and other candidates like him.

Tee Martin is the OC for Southern Cal. He is very seasoned to pressure, expectations, and the big stage. He is ready.

Fans ready to turn their n their season tickets if he gets the job.
Tennessee needs to sign either Tee Martin or Lane Kiffen to save face at this point

#Tennessee coaching search update: Source tells me the meeting with Mike Leach went very well. And... stay tuned.
----------------------
I'm not trying to be snarky here, but after a week long nightmare, is Tennessee about to stumble into what would have been probably the best hire all along?
We'll find out tomorrow I guess.

Let’s see:
TENNESSEE COACHING SEARCH UPDATE:
Jon Gruden - No
Scott Frost -- No
Chip Kelly -- No
Dan Mullen - No
Greg Schiano - Yes, then massive protests equaled No
Mike Gundy - No
David Cutcliffe - No
Jeff Brohm - Agreed to contract with AD, President said No
Jim Bob Cooter - No
Dave Doeren - fans were gonna lineup for season ticket refunds, soNo
Mike Leach— looks like Yes
So I would say coaches Tennessee looked at that is either better or who I think would succeed better than Leach at Tennessee could be:
1. Dan Mullen-best coaching hire in all of college football so far this silly season
2. Mike Gundy-very good track record for n Big 12 while knowing OSU will get out recruited by in state rivals OU in a Texas centric league and still gets 9-10 wins almost yearly.
Chip Kelly is about equal to Leach in terms of possibility of winning. Frost could have a High sealing but a bow basement too.

Can someone explain the Adam James situation to me ? This seems like a decent hire but isn't this an issue? And what about Marquess Wilson. Thanks!

Looks like Leach is not going to be the guy as Tennessee has now fired AD John Currie:
AD out at UT
Quote:Currie flew back earlier Friday to Knoxville after interviewing Washington State coach Mike Leach on Thursday in Los Angeles. University officials instructed Currie not to broker a deal with Leach or anybody else prior to returning to campus, sources told ESPN.

And now this development...
Bruce Feldman reports for SI
This apparently was posted before Currie was fired.
Quote:We’ve heard from multiple sources there is a lot of in-fighting, finger-pointing and back-stabbing taking place amongst Tennessee brass. As SI reported earlier this week, there is a growing faction at Tennessee pushing to get Currie removed. Former Vols head coach Phil Fulmer is said to be one of those battling with Currie and that could muck up the process to reel in Leach.

Industry source: “Throughout this entire (#Tennessee) coaching search Phil Fulmer has tried to undermine AD John Currie in hopes of becoming the AD there.”

It will be interesting to see if, or when, Sankey weighs in on this. It was in part Fulmer's shenanigans that led to Slive putting the clamp down on coaches pulling dirty tricks on each other in the SEC.
The incident in Memphis where Fulmer sabotaged Alabama with a dirty recruit is merely an example of the lengths he is willing to go. Things got randy in Mississippi this past year and Sankey needs to get tough on this before it gets out of hand.
Right now the big victim is the Tennessee president. Apparently everyone is getting to see who it is that runs UT and it has nothing to do with structural chain of command.

You'd almost have to be crazy to walk into the meat grinder that is Tennessee right now.

Some way, somehow this is going to end badly. I'm not talking about prospects for Tennessee's athletic success. I'm talking about the stability of the league. People like Phil Fulmer don't belong in positions of power and influence.

Truthfully ATU, Tennessee isn't all that important anymore. What Sankey is going to have to do is keep them in line. And that goes for the Mississippi stuff too. Tennessee doesn't want to lose their identity as a core SEC member. This thing, like most bad things will feed upon itself until it is gone. Then Tennessee can once again have the hope of the future.

That job is to damn toxic. Fat Phil will try and micro manage the football program. No one outside of maybe Tee Martian will stay very long.
