ACA Enrollments Surge
Double last year!

Quote:The number of people who signed up for Obamacare plans more than doubled on the first day of enrollment compared with the prior year, according to a new report.

That potential record for enrollment levels comes despite opposition to Obamacare by the Trump administration, and despite sharp defunding of sign-up outreach efforts and advertising by the administration.

TheHill.com reported that last Wednesday, the first day of open enrollment for individual health plans, more than 200,000 people selected an Obamacare plan for 2018.

That compares with only around 100,000 for the same day last year, according to TheHill.com, citing a source close to the enrollment process.

There was also a sharp uptick in visits to HealthCare.gov, the federally run insurance marketplace that sells Obamacare plans in much of the United States.

More than 1 million people visited that sign-up site last Wednesday, compared with about 750,000 visitors on the first day of open enrollment in 2016.

It will be interesting to see the final numbers to see if the trend continues.

RE: ACA Enrollments Surge
Could have something to do with all of the open market cancellations -- caused (in my view) by the mandatory coverage requirements making non-government-subsidized, market-rate premiums infeasible.

Just anecdotally, I am on my 4th individual policy since 2011, having had the three previous cancelled on me. My premiums and deductible have nearly tripled over that spell.

Thanks Obama!

more people working = more people buying insurance
less people on disability = more people buying insurance
not sure what you are getting at with the elderly. number of people reaching Medicare is not in decline as far as i know

RE: ACA Enrollments Surge
Why are they limiting their "RECORD NUMBER" headline to the first day only?

Also, the article points out that they had a record day, despite Trump slashing the advertising budget. Doesnt that make Trump seem like a genius? He got double the enrollments that Obama got, with a fraction of the budget.

this is like being excited because prisoners walked into their jail cell.

the fact the people do a certain thing because they are coerced to do that thing by force of federal law should not, I repeat not, be celebrated.

in a related story, a record number of people in texas enrolled in that states' program to receive their driver's license. *balloon drop*

RE: ACA Enrollments Surge
wow...

in a country of 350mm people, the left is harping about how 200,000 people rather than 100,000 people signed up on the first day.

I'd say the most likely reason for this is that people like Tom were focused on the election last year November 1, sure that their candidate would win, and this year they're focused on the fact that their candidate didn't win and they'd better sign up. Well, 100,000 people were focused on that anyway.

Probably a creative accounting lie.

Yeah, they do.

Medicare Advantage (private option to Medicare) and Medicare Supplement (because Medicare by itself is vastly insufficient).

Oh, and they buy prescription drug plans. And dental insurance, because Medicare doesn't cover it.

you know, it would be oddly trumpesque to spike the football over record setting ACA registrations, if it was to occur. I can see the tweet now;

@DonaldJTrump Wrote:record setting number of @ACAregistrations since I took over. I'm trying to kill it, and I'm doubling the number of the last guy. shitballs, I'm so awesome!
