Hey now. Toledo hosts NIU midweek this season.That game always draws north of 20k at Toledo. North of 6k in Dekalb.

ESPN has opted to have midweek MAC games. I'm sure they didn't consult with a prophet to ask if the World Series would be going on tonight (or game seven tomorrow night).

There is so much happening on television in the world of sports that to avoid competition one might need to play a game at midnight eastern time.

Shoot, I remember flipping back n' forth from the WMU-Kent game and the POTUS election results last year. That was an event they knew was coming and should've avoided.

Midweek games do satisfy some of my MAC appetite during the workweek doldrums, and it does promote the conference "brand" despite the large swaths of empty seats that just don't look good on television. But at the end of the day, I wish there were still all on Saturdays as the college football gods intended (maybe a Thursday or Friday night here and there).

Here's a thought, move the TV cameras to the far side of the stadiums, that way you are at least looking at the fuller home side.

It doesn't work that way. You are about a whole bunch of money to re-wire stadiums that will be with in a certain range of the production trucks.

OU has blown two 14 point leads tonight, 28 all late in the third. James Gardner is unstoppable right now, I'll be pissed if we lose this and waste this performance.

I don't think anyone can deny that Kent is the bottom of all Div 1 football

The opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy. That's about where I am for Miami football, and I haven't even been a fan for any of our decent years. We're gonna lose one of the next two games to Akron, if not EMU. When that happens and we're officially knocked out of bowl eligibility (we have a below average APR), it's time to scrap Martin. We have a talented team returning next year, we can't squander it on a mediocre staff. Not to mention that he's entering the last year of his contract, he hasn't earned an extension and we can't have a weird lame duck situation like Coop for basketball last season.

Man, do we have widely differing opinions. Does anyone think certain MAC teams would draw huge crowds on Saturday in November (in the past)?

A good TV contract with a lot of exposure is CRITICAL for a conference these days.

No TV = no relevance. Fans of the teams + recruits want to see those teams play.

The MW doesn't have a good tv contract and they are still a solid league. PAC12 has a lot of tv, but their move to thursday and friday games has hurt attendance. being a fan is largely about connection and positive associations. things like meeting up with old friends for tailgating. taking your kids to the game. rushing the field after a big win as a student. taking a road trip to watch your team. those are what make a fan base. (and those things happen a lot less with half as many Saturday games) tv is cool for hard core fans like us who may live far away from the teams they love, but it does't build a fan base, and in the case of the MAC is eroding what was already a modest level of support.
