Where is the Maction? No mid week games this season? - No Bull - 09-26-2017 12:50 PM

I have been disappointed. You guys don't seem to be playing Wednesday and Thursday games this year... I miss the MAC on tv.

Midweek MACtion doesn't start until late October/November typically.

Sun Belt starts Wednesday games soon

Oh, don't worry. When we're settled into Conference Season, you'll see Tuesday & Wednesday games. :) With no crowds outside the student sections (because other people have jobs).

Hey now. Toledo hosts NIU midweek this season. That game always draws north of 20k at Toledo. North of 6k in Dekalb.

The only conference I watch more than the MAC is the one we reside in. The MAC represents the way college football the way it is supposed to be. On and off the field.

As a fan of the MAC, I do see positives to weeknight games. Personally, I love being able to watch football on days other then Saturday and Sunday.

I remember in high school I'd be doing homework or something at the kitchen table and turn on an ESPN station for some background noise. Half the time in the fall it'd be MACtion, which my dad would tease me about since he's a Big Ten alum so naturally it screamed small time to him. Not like that inspired me to attend a MAC school, but I always enjoyed watching those games - was a lot different having to attend every one of them in person with the band while Miami sucked on the field.

Done at 4 or 5 pm you should be able make a 7pm game from Chicago.
Aurora or Naperville even faster.

BTW, a little O/T (I guess), but sometimes MAC fans forget a lot of perks of the media deal with ESPN.

Seems every Saturday I can turn on CBSSN and see a MAC team(s) play. EMU has had two consecutive games on that network, first Toledo and then Saturday, @Army.

Esp. nice to see the MAC teams when they play @Army.

Directv went out on Saturday at the bar I work at in Chicago, so I was streaming the UT-CMU game for everyone's enjoyment. :)

You're forgetting we are on central time. These are 6 pm start times. Would need to leave work in Chicago by 3:30 if you were going straight to the game. Picking up family and/or friends, take half a day off of work. Absurd!!!! 01-lauramac2

Of course this leaves no time for tailgating. Tailgating would mean leaving work by 2 pm or earlier (see comment on friends and family above). And the impact of these early weeknight games on DeKalb business means no one is eating in restaurants or shopping the stores.

By the way, most people will arrive home to watch the game at Toledo somewhere in the middle of the second quarter.

And national coverage? Who on the west coast is watching NIU at Toledo starting at 3:00 pm?

But they havent been over the past 7 years??

You can hardly buy alcohol in gas stations in Illinois, who cares about the local businesses for 4 hours? They cant be impacting biz that much if only 8k are showing up??? Imagine the local biz in Columbus or Ann Arbor? Must be shutting down!!

By the way, most people will arrive home to watch the game at Toledo somewhere in the middle of the second quarter.

Dont live in Chicago then!

Who in the west coast cares about us anyway? Not really our market...

Sun Belt betrayed us by not having a game tonight

But isn't the great "national exposure" why have weekday games ESPN? If no one cares and the exposure is not national, then why have the weeknight games?

P.S. The TOLEDO dining special!

#TakeBackTheMAC!!!

RE: Where is the Maction? No mid week games this season? - emu steve - 10-20-2017 02:42 PM

All I know is that I'm loving all the NATIONAL EXPOSURE EMU is getting:

1). BTN - Rutgers,
2). SEC - Kentucky
3). CBSSN - Toledo
4). CBSSN - Army
5). CBSSN - NIU
6). CBSSN - BSU

Rest - TBD.

To me, it doesn't matter if it is BTN, SEC, or CBSSN (or an ESPN network channel like the "U").
