RE: 2017 MAC Football Pick 'Em -- Week 5
Bold is my pick; underline is against the spread.
Central Michigan @ Boston College -8
*BC has a tough D. Clemson wore them out by the time the 4th Q rolled around, but it was a tight game thru the better part of 3Q. CMU's Shane Morris @QB could be on-point enough to make this a Good game and a very possible win. I wouldn't count on it throughout the game. BC wins by 10, but leads the whole game.
Ohio -8.5 @ UMass
*UMass isn't good. But OMG, they almost beat @Tennessee, @Temple, Old Dominion, and Hawaii. But also they couldn't beat Coastal Carolina of all teams. WTF? They are very capable of taking out Ohio. This may be their first win, and I want to choose them due to a feeling -- but I can't choose them. Ohio wins in a squeaker.
Buffalo -7.5 @ Kent State
*Some injuries on Buffalo's side getting thru that game last week? KSU has a good D. They're at home and ready to play. Coming into the year, they saw this as a potential win -- and win, they very well may do. But I have to choose Buffalo, by a FG or a TD.
Eastern Michigan @ Kentucky -14.5
*EMU, if they squeaked it out against Ohio at home last week, I would say they could truly win this with enthusiasm & confidence behind their back. Kentucky's OK this year, but nothing incredible. EMU's thristy to make a name for themselves. But they're just not good enough. It wouldn't be a world shocker if EMU won, but they won't. However, I do see them giving Kentucky a scare like EKU did. Kentucky by 10.
Miami-OH @ #22 Notre Dame -21
*Notre Dame isn't quite as good as you think. MSU bungled the 1st half, and MSU's O, despite a good QB, just isn't gelled. WMU didn't score 1 offensive point against MSU, and MSU could only score as much as Idaho did AT WMU. Yikes. Miami makes it a good game, and scares Notre Dame after riding high off the MSU win. ND wins by 10.
Akron -3 @ Bowling Green
*Akron had a chance to beat Troy. They took Iowa State down to the wire in their 1st half. Akron is better than BGSU. BGSU is off-game. Akron wins by 7pts in a close one.
Ball State @ Western Michigan -12.5
*Ball State didn't have their starting QB & RB -- their two hugest weapons last week throughout the game against @WKU. I should have known that, no wonder Vegas had WKU at such good odds. My bad. They're out this game, along with a few others. WMU won't be pretty & perfect, as BSU will be scrappy, but in the end, WMU wins by about 2 TDs at home.
Northern Illinois @ #19 San Diego State -11
*The spread opened at 13.5 for SDSU, but it dropped to 11. NIU could win this, but NIU going west coast? Ehhhh. They only seem to like travelling in the midwest. SDSU has a great D, but so does NIU. However, NIU's offense isn't great. But can it be? Can Santa deliver the presents in the end-zone, while their horse of a RB does some damage? Quite possibly. But I can't choose them. SDSU wins by 14 in the end.
