However... if for whatever reason he may not be able to suit up right away... he's going to be a freaking force for the next few years and will be a great internal coach for the youngsters coming up...

He's not quitebup to par yet. Hasn't been in pads since the 1st week of November 2017. It'll take a few weeks before he's in "football shape".

He's got time and a great set of coaches... I see him doing well in Kalamazoo... Sounds like he really enjoys his teammates and surroundings... thats huge. Just glad that WMU was able to give him another shot... So happy to have him playing for the Broncos!

According to Lester it looks like a week or 2 before they get the determination on eligibility for this season from the NCAA. http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/2...bile_index

Well, if he's gotta sit out a year, means he'll get two years to feast on SU. Also, means he can definitely work on getting that 700+ pound squat and 500 pound bench. He was pretty close to that already when he left SU.

RE: Cuse DT Interested in Broncos
It will be total BS if the NCAA makes him sit out. Basically he was, for no fault of his own, told he cant play for Syracuse, so he had no choice (athletically) but to go elsewhere. This isn't a situation where he is looking at another school to get more playing time, or he got in trouble. Syracuse should be advocating on his behalf, or at least cooperating with the kid 100%. To do otherwise would be horse crap.

I really hope he plays for us this year. Looks like a huge score for us.

^ I agree. It felt like a no-brainer to me that he could play right away.

That's because you use common sense. This is the NCAA we're talking about.

Exactly. I can totally see them denying this request. They will claim he has 3 years to complete 2 anyway...

I can't imagine the NCAA keeping this kid out this year. Wouldn't be surprised but usually when it's not an immediate decision it does go in favor of the athlete. I would bet money he's sacking Darnold week one!

I don't think they will make him sit out. I think it's just standard bureaucratic processes, is all.

Unfortunately, the bureaucratic process (and bureaucrats) just leave a young man dangling in the meantime.

He'll know before the week of Game 1 and that's all that matters.

He'll have it. Honestly -- basic common sense is on our side. IF we were to play Syracuse to open things This year -- that's the only way I could see it being in question.

We're not. He's been validated by doctors. It should be A-Okay.

Kid probably shouldn't get his hopes up. But a year of conditioning with that chip...we could have the next Suh in 2018.

Syracuse is afraid of the liability because the initial blood clot was caused by someone on their staff putting the wrong sized brace on this kid when he got hurt last year. The schools doctor who is in charge of these decisions (Tucker) is a general family practice doctor who refuses to change his mind even after being told the kid is good by multiple hematologists. He's also been cleared by WMU's doctors or he wouldn't even be going there.

A lot to go through, but if you want to learn some stuff, read this thread > https://syracusefan.com/threads/syracuse...ts.115837/

Hidden in that 57 page thread on page 49 was something Steven's dad Steve posted. This says so much about Western Michigan University:

Quote:It would also set precedent and doesn't send a good message either.
My understanding is that, worst case scenario, Steven would red shirt this year. WMU's compliance staff is already diligently working on a waiver. It truly is amazing how "on the ball" WMU's administrative staff has been. Far cry from what we're used to.

My father is an alumnus, and I first played football on the field below the old sanitorium. Kalamzoo is a great place, and my dad bleeds brown and gold. We're very happy things have turned out the way they have.

We may be biased here, but there are few football cathedrals more enjoyable than in and around Waldo Stadium on a beautiful fall Saturday afternoon. It's just too bad those Saturday afternoons aren't as plentiful as they used to be. Hope you'll be there!

I have been to way too many college football games on different campuses to count. By far, the two best game day experiences are Waldo and Michie Stadium at West Point. Very comfortable, good people without too much idiocy that can happen some places, great pregame, and a lot of fun during the game. If I never go to another game at U of Mich I will be fine with that. I remain constantly jealous of all you folks who live in Kalamazoo area. I still get to my share of games but would be nice not having to drive 3+ hours each way. It is still easier though than the 11 hour drive for ARMY games (but there I get to see my kid).

Watching #72 for Syracuse v Clemson 11/5/16 on ESPNU. Started at 2pm. Hoping to see how he did vs top level competition and a very mobile QB. I believe this is the last game he played at SU.

youtube link to the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLdSE7AJd5Y&t=7068s

It was. Some of his better work were Clemson's 1st possession, 3rd and 3, where he got pressure on Watson; next play, 4th and 2, he took the double-team, didn't budge off his spot, then the damn LB tried to arm-tackle the RB when he comes through the B gap. 2nd possession, 1st Qtr, 1st down, 6:53 on the game clock, I thought was pretty good pursuit. Next play, 6:44 on the game clock, did a pretty good job in getting in the way of a screen pass.

Anyways. Curious to hear what you think.
