I don't get the hype about NYC. It's dirty, overcrowded, extremely expensive, the people are rude as hell, and you hear most every language except English.
I much prefer the smaller city... something like Charlotte, Nashville, Charleston, Savannah, etc.
*Disclaimer*: I was born on Long Island, about 45 minutes from the city, so I'm not just some out of touch yokel.

Chicago: Best place for a weekend away for me personally with everything it has to offer so close to home (about a 3 hour drive from me).
Denver: Best place in the world IMO for outdoor activities.
Seattle/Vancouver: I know Van isn't in the US, but it may as well be and the Pacific Northwest is just a really cool place.
DC: Just great for the history.
ECUGrad, I agree completely on NYC, I went there once and that's more than enough for a lifetime. There are so many better cities in America, and the world for that matter, that put NYC to shame.

With that said, I'm gonna go with:
1. Washington DC (They have a museum or two, and perhaps some monuments...)
2. San Francisco (That whole unique thing)
3. New Orleans (And once there, I shall gorge myself on cajun food)
4. Seattle (Rainier is on the bucket list)
5. Boston (Haven't been, but once I'm there I'm totally geeking out on the history)
Vegas isn't unique?
Kinda but there are better gambling cities in the world....Monte Carlo, Macau, etc.
Vegas is only unique bc we banned casino gambling for so long throughout the rest of the US. As it becomes more available(especially if sports gambling becomes fully legal), its uniqueness becomes less and its existence becomes less necessary.
The lights and glamour is what makes Vegas attractive and unique, not the gambling. We have a casino <30 minutes away and the legality of sports betting has never stopped me from enjoying it from the comfort of my own home but I still can never get enough Vegas.

Yep. I hate going to Louisiana to gamble, I feel like a degenerate. The ambiance that Vegas provides makes it so much more exciting. Go the weekend of a big fight, the energy in the city is the best.

My brother lives in a cool little neighborhood in the SoHo area. I love to visit, but I couldn't live in Manhattan. It's just too overwhelming. I could probably do Brooklyn or Queens though.

True. I was speaking of houston specifically just because its such a massive immigrant city. Has some amazing ethnic food because of that.
If you are in a city that you hear a ton of languages chances are you are going to have some great meals.

Houston has been named America's best city by both Forbes and Business Insider in the past 5 years. Be sure to let us know whenever Mempiss even has a blurb in such an article.

Yeah I mentioned those other cities for the same. It's not everyone's cup of tea. I can be overwhelming if you're not used to or like large cities. I spent most of April in a tiny studio in Seoul which is monstrous at 25M. I loved it. I can understand how some would be horrified.

NOLA is gross. Bourbon Street smells like piss.
San Francisco doesn't make my list, because I don't feel the need to virtue signal how cool and trendy I am. It's commie central. No thanks.
Denver and the surrounding areas are awesome. All things considered, it's probably the ideal place to live in America (Hawaii excluded).
With rare exception, when I travel domestically, it's west, so I've never been to New England, but it looks nice.
There's a lot more to NOLA than Bourbon Street. In fact, I am there about 2 to 5 days a month and can't remember when I last went to Bourbon Street.
