Enjoy your time at Oxpatch. I hope we play you guys and beat you down like SMU beat you last year.

Right on.
Not sure how someone can be a partial Tiger fan and partial Rebel fan? That's like being a fan of the USA and North Korea, at the same time.

I follow South Carolina football and today I have seen some articles mentioning that Crawford is supposed to be visiting them.

For the NIT title maybe....
Beats where where we've been for the last few years and where we'll likely be next year.

Does anyone really care if you don't make the tourney?

Markel was on the radio and confirmed. He's a Dixie-whistling, Confederate flag-waving Black Bear.

I love the Dixie-whistling, Confederate flag-waving part of your statement. The Black Bear part, not so much.

Yes, we are probably 2 years away from ncaa. Hopefully nit next year, win a few games. If we were to some how get in ncaa, we will get destroyed in the first round.

Highly unlikely we'll make the NIT next year, given the talent we lost and the replacement talent. I think next year may shock many Tiger fans and test their support, as it's been many years since we've had an actual losing season. I hope I'm totally wrong on both counts.

Maybe, traveling in Pearl territory. I think we will be slightly better next year, with a couple of more wins. We lost some talent, but we were so unbalanced last year, and with no bench.

I'm thinking if he had been just a regular player in JUCO last year...Markel would have been in the top ten rated JUCOs.
Also, he has a family and maybe wanted to stay close to Memphis.
Anyway. I am happy for his new start.
He is an average D1 basketball player. He's a fine shooter, but not great from three. He's not great at beating his man off the dribble and getting to the rack, but he does have good hops. He doesn't create his own shot often. It's hard to tell how good of a defender he is, b/c as a team we struggled defensively. As others have mentioned, he seems to be inconsistent and disappears at times. Time will tell if the incoming players do an adequate job of replacing him. Relatively speaking, I would expect us to miss Dedric more and have a much harder time replacing him.
Yeah, like close to half the season.

People can make jokes and I can't say I blame them...but I felt like Ole Miss was a NCAA team with next year's roster before this news. Definitely feel like it now.
Really solid squad AK has put together down there. With very little to work with.
Congrats on the nice pick up.
I don't root for Ole Miss basketball (don't hate em either). Wish Markel was still here.
That pretty much sums up how I feel.

Why do we pretend Markel was no good...just because he is leaving. If he were staying, we'd be so happy. (He did get injured you know.)
If we are blaming our program collapse totally on the Lawsons and the fact that KJ was difficult, then it must follow that playing on the same team was no simple task.
I demand some logic! lol

He's a good player. No doubt about it. He's a role player. No doubt about that either. Teams need those guys. But to say he is all that and a bag of chips is going a little far. He wouldn't make a big difference this year. We're going to take some lumps, but it gives the new guys more playing time. He's an excellent pickup for any team that has a scholarship available. You really can't lose. If he's a dud, you get that scholarship back next year. If he produces, you got a late addition that helped.
Before this year, he averaged just north of 5 points/game. This year he did 12 playing 32 minutes/game. I'd just as well have those 32 minutes and see if any of the new guys can contribute. This is just a rebuilding year, so it'll be good to see JJ get more playing time..

Yep. It wasn't long ago when many people were talking about how Markel was the 2nd best player on the team and the only NBA prospect. Funny how things changed so fast.

He is just a role player. Big deal. We are going to have a rough year with or without him. I'm glad the weak sisters have moved on. If he didn't want to stay... buh bye... more time for Jamal
