RE: Andy Pepper unofficially confirms that Spillane is back with the team...
I have different view on events than the rest of you, it appears.
In a sense I'm glad to have Spillane back because he is a talented player. But he sure didn't demonstrate loyalty to his teammates or the program with his off again, on again behavior.
Also, what about Drake Spears who was penciled in as replacement for Spillane? How is he to accept his chance to start and shine on the field? Hopefully he'll get his opportunities for playtime this season and a fighting chance to land the starting job with his performance.
I recognize young people make foolish mistakes of judgement and should be afforded more leeway, but Mr. Spillane needs to recognize he is only one player on this team and the team AS A WHOLE wins or loses. Nobody is a star, nobody is any more important than the others-the team as a unit has success or failure.
I've said my piece.

By all accounts the team overwhelmingly wanted him back. So no, I don't think your "piece" carries a ton of weight.

I assume you heard about the path Lester made him travel in order to be accepted back onto the team?
As far as I'm concerned, Spillane earned his way back on the team. Good for him. Great life lesson for the young man (as well as his teammates).

For a team that was returning many starters one or 2 losses at this point is a big blow. Especially the leader of this unit. It's up to the coaches and his teammates what stipulations are placed on a return to the team, and none of us are privy to the process. Nor should we be.
There should be competition for every position on the field. In the MAC or any G5 the depth and talent is not the same as on a P5 team. So the loss of Braster hurts the DE group. And if a LB is skilled enough to see the field but not deemed to take a starting spot he can back up at LB and help at rush end.

Drake should have never 'expected' to be given the starting job anyway. Everything is up for competition. If he wants it, he will earn it. RS being there doesn't change the mindset. If it does, the mindset was wrong to begin with.

Nope, I heard nothing about that. If I overlooked some pertinent information than provide it to me so I can reconsider my earlier assessment.

It was all in the MLive article.
Lester made Spillane meet with team leadership first, then the coaches, then had to get up in front of the whole team before they all collectively decided to take him back.

And the vote had to be UNANIMOUS. Meaning every coach and every player had to say "yes, I want him back". That, to me, says WAY more about him as a teammate than anything any of us armchairs could cook up on our keyboards.
