If losing Talley wasn't so sad it would be funny after reading the posts above.
Tech signed a guy.
WKU signed a couple of guys.
Rice signed a guy.
Marshall signed a guy.
UAB signed a guy.
And ... ODU lost a key guy.
Sounds like WKU's story over the past 5 seasons..... hoping that trend is over , it can be somebody else's turn

Marshall may or may not be done. It depends on how the NCAA rules on Iran Bennett. Marshall has 1 scholarship left. If the NCAA rules in favor of Bennett then that scholarship will go to him, if not then I think Dan goes and grabs a Grad transfer for a year. Bennett has the grades and test scores, he has a 3.65 at Hargrave and had a 23 on his act. But he went to a school in NC that has now locked their doors and no one can get records from them.

You guys still have Caver and the Stiths returning? If so, you're fine. No one has lost more than Rice this offseason. But we'll be fine in the long run - our new coaching staff is solid and the 6 scholarship guys we have returning aren't horrible. Some of them didn't play much as freshmen but they potentially are as talented as some of the guys leaving. The worst thing about this is now we have to scale down our NC schedule again next year.

From the outside looking in, I feel the loss of Norton is what completely changed UAB's season, not the coach.

It was definitely a major factor. This season it's up to Ehsan to show us what he's made of.

Me too. Depends on Floyd keeping the new signees and current players in the fold. If he does (which would be surprising) then this should be a good year for Miner basketball. Miner fans are now accustomed to waiting until at least Nov to figure out who is actually going to be on the court.
What's going on there? Can someone give me a quick synopsis? I read about the incident last season between the fan with the sign and the former football coach. Who is Floyd and for how long does his contract run? Is it his fault? What kind of talent is coming back? Thanks.

Southern Miss added a high school shooting guard, LaDavius Draine, and a juco forward, Boban Jacdomni. I've heard that the coaching staff is very excited about Draine. It appears that Jacdomni may just be a much needed big body.
LaDavius Draine, standing at 6-foot-4 and 185 pounds, had a highly-decorated career on and off the court while at Calhoun City High School. He was a three-time District 4-2A MVP and averaged 30.2 points and 11.2 rebounds per game as a senior. Draine ultimately scored 2,318 points in his time as a Wildcat and recorded eight points and six rebounds in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game in March. His biggest game was posting a school-record 52 points as a senior, including 46 in the first half.
Boban Jacdonmi, who has a 6-foot-9, 250-pound build, relocated from London to North Staffordshire, where he then played for the Newcastle Knights. Jacdonmi ultimately chose Chattanooga State Community College in Tennessee, where he started both years he was there. He averaged 8.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game as a freshman and shot 53.4 percent from the field as a sophomore.

Rice just got a commit from AJ Lapray, a grad transfer from Pepperdine. He originally was at Oregon, transferred to Pepperdine, and sat out this past year with hip problems. Has definitely had an injury plagued career, but was fairly highly rated out of high school so I could see him contributing if he stays healthy.
We've now added four commits since our mass exodus, two freshman and two grad transfers (One from Penn and one from Pepperdine).

Not having Norton changed the outcome of UAB this year. But I think their biggest loss was the graduation of Robert Brown.

Any insight on what happened? Here's a quote from the al.com story announcing his commitment:
http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2017/...mmits.html
Originally from Louisville, Ky., Perry started his career at Middle Tennessee but was dismissed for "violating athletic department policy" before playing a game.
He quickly made his mark at John A. Logan, scoring 13.1 ppg as a freshman in 2015-16. Now, he'll play against Middle Tennessee at least twice a year.
"I feel like I have a lot to prove to them, and that's really all I have to say," Perry said.

I don't know. I assumed "Mary Jane", but not sure. His quote makes it sound like something else, however.

RE: Looking Ahead to Next Year
Might be speaking too soon but Western could get 2 huge pickups this weekend. Both 4 star players.
Markel Crawford a GT from Memphis St who was a 4 star (59th overall) SG coming out of high school and averaged 13ppg and 4rebs last season is set to visit Western this weekend
Tremont Waters 4 star (34th overall) pg is set to visit on Friday. This will be his one and only visit, since he used the rest before signing with G'town. So if he shows up, he will probably sign.
So Western will look a little different come Oct.
If Western gets the PG that pushes this years class up to 5th and that will not include the two 4 star players that sit out last year or the Memphis kid. I'm the type of person that is a wait and see...
but as a fan you can't help but think what might be. Or could be if these kids Jel and Coach Stansbury does a better job this season at just that...coaching.

Charlotte got a 6-8 power forward from Serbia to change his commitment from Quinnipiac after the Q school had a coaching change.

hopefully our two (supposed) stud transfers that sat out last year coupled with the one's Doc will finally be able to recruit w/o ncaa sanctions hanging over his head will get us back to some level of respectability.....
gotta right now to our brothers from the north.....

How many new players will WKU have this season, assuming the 2 guys you mentioned do end up signing?

If Justin Johnson goes football only it could be a whole new team. Starting from scratch. Good scratch, mind you but a whole new squad.

Mitchell Robinson - 5*
Josh Anderson - 4*
Lamonte Bearden - 4* transfer
Tremont Waters - 4*
Markel Crawford - 4* Grad Transfer
Mustafa Diange - 4* Transfer
Robinson Idehen - 3* Transfer
Taveion Hollingsworth - 3*
Jordan Brangers - 3* Juco
Jake Ohmer - 2*
That would be 10 new players, but obviously some very talented ones.
Currently returning are:
Justin Johnson
Jabari McGhee
Damari Parris
TJ Howard
Obviously, if we get both kids this weekend then we may be losing one of those returners.
