Markel Crawford a GT from Memphis St who was a 4 star (59th overall) SG coming out of high school and averaged 13ppg and 4rebs last season is set to visit Western this weekend
Tremont Waters 4 star (34th overall) pg is set to visit on Friday. This will be his one and only visit, since he used the rest before signing with G'town. So if he shows up, he will probably sign.
So Western will look a little different come Oct.
If Western gets the PG that pushes this years class up to 5th and that will not include the two 4 star players that sit out last year or the Memphis kid. I'm the type of person that is a wait and see...
but as a fan you can't help but think what might be. Or could be if these kids Jel and Coach Stansbury does a better job this season at just that...coaching.
How many new players will WKU have this season, assuming the 2 guys you mentioned do end up signing?
Mitchell Robinson - 5*
Josh Anderson - 4*
Lamonte Bearden - 4* transfer
Tremont Waters - 4*
Markel Crawford - 4* Grad Transfer
Mustafa Diange - 4* Transfer
Robinson Idehen - 3* Transfer
Taveion Hollingsworth - 3*
Jordan Brangers - 3* Juco
Jake Ohmer - 2*
That would be 10 new players, but obviously some very talented ones.
Currently returning are:
Justin Johnson
Jabari McGhee
Damari Parris TJ Howard
Obviously, if we get both kids this weekend then we may be losing one of those returners.
I thought I saw tweet from Rothstein that Howard was transferring out...

Some of our fans don't want to hear that but it's like losing your starting quarterback and his backup is a converted running back or WR.
Good news is we will have guys that can run point next season. If you don't have a good point guard you can forget about post season.

Astute. Point guard is the most important position on the floor.
Its like Thunder Dome over on the ODU board talking about the Talley dismissal.
Nah, that's our normal off-season banter.
Truth. It's just fuel to the fire that was already burning.
Its like Ive always said: "You can take the kid out of the Hood, but you can't take the Hood out of the kid".
You can mentor and try and inspire young adults to be the best they can and do the right thing. But sooner or later that kid has to stand and do the right thing when he has choices, on his own. A lot of the time they choose to do the right thing, and some don't.
This is a struggle on every university campus though. I'm very glad my university hasn't earned the reputation like Baylor , where for at least the last 20 years or so they have turned a blind eye to bad behavior. First starting with trying to cover up the 2003 Patrick Dennehy murder to now trying to hide at least 75 rapes by student athletes in the last 10 years.

That is 3 out of 4 unless you count Wade who had to gray shirt this year. So far this year we have lost Winn to transfer very early in the season, Moore before the season and now Barnes and Cameron. That's at least 4 scholarships available that have already been filled by 4 signees in the early signing period. Two more are expected to sign in the late signing period that starts on April 12th. Not sure if there are scholarships available but it's possible that one or more players currently on the team are on academic scholarships, thinking of Touchet at least and maybe a walk on or two. So still 7 of top 8 returning but a long wait and see before next season begins.
And Deon Barrett is transferring. So, if you're counting the number of 2016 recruits making it to year 2, you're out of luck because you can't count to 0. 2 out of the 10 (I think) recruits from the last two years have made it to year 2: Paul Thomas and Kelvin Jones vs. Lee Moore, Adrian Moore, Tim Cameron, Josh McSwiggan, Buddha Jones, Chris Barnes, Deon Barrett, and Ramon Silva. Am I missing anyone? Bleeping joke.

How does that affect APR if the players are in "good standing" ?

Good question. With UTEP's revolving door one would think it would have an adverse affect to some degree.
News just keeps pouring out of Huntington and as of right now it all seems to be good news. It looks like Darius George who was slated to go to Hargrave Military is now headed to Huntington instead.
Darius was the VA state 2A player of the year and lead Lee HS to a 2A state title. This will be a relief for a lot of Marshall fans and probably D'Antoni too. A lot of us was on edge that someone bigger would step in and take him from now til the 2018 season. I know he was starting to get interest from both VA Tech and Tennessee.
I don't know if this means the NCAA has finally ruled on Iran Bennett and he is ineligible or if he is taking the scholarship from departed PG Ky're Allison.
The 5 new guys for Marshall stepped in the Henderson Center for their 1st ever collegiate practice today. Those 5 are:
Dani Koljanin 6'8 PF JR Monroe College, Pula, Croatia
Darius George 6'6 SG FR Lee HS, Staunton, VA
Tanner Robinette 6'8 PF/SF FR Hargrave Military Academy, Honaker, VA
Jarrod West 5'11 PG FR Notre Dame HS, Clarksburg, WV
Iran Bennett 6'10 FR Hargrave Military Academy, Durham, NC
The one word that described Iran Bennett was "Massive". He def. isn't Ryan Taylor who would also step out and shoot the 3, I doubt we ever see Bennett ever take a 3 unless its at the end of a shot clock or half and it has to be thrown up. He still needs to lose a lil weight but I could see him playing somewhere around 250 even 260.
Dan has added 5 but he also has a few departures. Walk ons Jakob Kilgore will still attend Marshall but has left basketball, also Ot Elmore has left the team, he will instead concentrate on getting his masters degree. Aleksa Nikolic is gone, Darius George took his scholarship up.
These 5 are the most ready to play in a D'Antoni class that Ive seen. There is also an advantage to at least 4 of them. Darius George and Jarrod West have been playing together for the past 4 years with Big Shots AAU and Iran Bennett and Tanner Robinette have played together for the last 2 years at Hargrave Military under former Marshall PG AW Hamilton.
