RE: Basketball transfers out
I feel real bad for the MAC teams that have to worry about players declaring early for the NBA draft. Fortunately, this is something Toledo never has to worry about.

RE: Basketball transfers out
OT: I like to look in on a former MAC coaches occasionally to see how greener their grass really is. Today's look is at Bobby Hurley of Arizona State.

Noticed Hurley had 3 players transferring out currently, Maurice Field who followed BH from Buffalo, and 2 freshmen. Both freshmen were consensus 4 stars out of HS, one has already signed with Kansas. In addition to those transfers a 4 star incoming freshman backed out of his LOI on 4/11/17. Looking at their roster I also found a player who left last year after 1 season on the team and walked-on at Kennesaw State this year.

Maybe that much movement isn't too uncommon but does seem a little odd, imo.

RE: Basketball transfers out
Miami had 4 of last year's freshmen transfer out after the hiring of Coach Owens. The Weathers twins were our two best players IMO, the other two transfers were foreign post players who did not play much, in Bruno Solomun and Ben Eke Kazee. Coach Owens has been busy and has signed 3 freshmen and one junior college transfer in the last week. He potentially could still sign one more.

Fr 6-7 Dalonte Brown Toledo Bowsher Coach Cooper's staff had gotten a verbal from him. At first if appeared that he was going to go to junior college after Coach Owens was hired, but he signed his letter today. Toledo City POY.

Fr 6-5 Jalen Adaway Logansport, In He is a high flying dunking machine from his tapes

Fr 6-0 Isaiah Coleman-Lands Indianapolis, In La Lamiere top rated team in the nation in one poll...lots of good players on this team

Jr 6-2 Damon Ringo Midland College, TX Brownsburgh, In high school True point guard.

These guys are all skinny and fast. I am guessing we will want to get up and down the floor in a hurry.

Sounds a lot like how Buffalo plays. Put athletes on the floor and run in transition

A transition game would be great, but I'd even settle for just defending the three ball and boxing out for once.

Who was the last coach that liked an up tempo at Miami? The last four (Cooper, Coles, Sendek, Wright) were all slower tempo guys. Don't remember what Pierson or Hedric preferred.

Actually, when Cooper came in he wanted to press and run. However, his recruiting never matched that plan. So he would run in home games vs weak teams, but had to slow it down in MAC games to have a chance. What a painful 5 years to watch.

Yeah, how many new coaches come in and say, "We are going to really slow it down and run a very meticulous and patient half court offense"? Recruits and fans don't like to hear that. The biggest problem is mostly that recruits and fans still want to believe the crap coaches say.

True, but if a coach has prior experience it can make it more believable. Coop was able to run at Tennessee State because he had an NBA player on the roster so one could reasonably expext that we would too; likewise, I doubt people thought we would press much when Charlie Coles took over since he had experience at CMU to show that we were probably gonna deflate the ball with him.

My point was simply that it's become pretty much standard that every new coach says, "We're going to play an exciting, uptempo, high scoring brand of basketball and really apply the pressure all over the court, blah blah etc."

Some actually do, but far fewer than claim they want to. I think that was Dick's point in the first place.

Yeah that's pretty accurate. No one gets revved up by a coach promising to win a lot by the score of 56-50, though no one minds if they win 23 games in a season with those kinds of games.

Yikes and yikes, who is the best returning player in the MAC East?

Bad year for the MAC, especially for the MAC East?
