Until they revealed during the speeches that Warren Beatty was given the wrong envelope, and Moonlight actually won.
So that was a thing.
Damn that Putin. He is behind this. If you haven't seen it, well, it is beyond priceless to see those Hollywood d'bags screw something up so bad. Bet Steve Harvey had a good laugh tonight.

Warren Beatty was responsible for Reds - wouldn't surprise me one bit if Putin was behind it.
They also screwed up one of the photos in the In Memoriam segment and showed a living person's photo with the name of someone who had died during the year (Janet Patterson, a costume designer; they showed an Australian director's photo - a lady who is very much alive).
Looks like the voters got tired of hearing how much of a shoo-in La-La Land was and voted for a movie with black people in it to show how enlightened they are.

Thank you. Thank you all. Thank you to the Academy. Thank you to Lionsgate. Thank you to our incredible cast and crew who are all up here right now. Thank you to Jamie Feldman, to Gary Gilbert. Thank you to my parents for supporting my choice to pursue a career in the arts even though it was a little bit crazy. Arthur Horowitz, you are my fantasy baby. And to my kind, generous, talented, beautiful, blue-eyed wife and creative partner Julia Hart, you have inspired me to become the man I am right now—and more importantly, the man I’m still becoming. There’s a lot of love in this room, and let’s use it to create and champion bold and diverse work—work that inspires us towards joy, towards hope, and towards empathy.
