Let's not give UConn too much credit here by not mentioning them. They are borderline FCS level, and much worse than Tulane.

That "borderline FCS level" team handed ECU their @sses two seasons ago.

Anyway, the Big Ten counts UConn, Cincy, and Navy as a "Power 5" opponents. Do they count ECU? No.

UConn was in the conversation to join the Big 12. Was ECU? No.

UConn has played in a BCS bowl. Has ECU? No.

If UConn is an FCS level team, then ECU is Division II.

yeah, I don't know where this UCONN should be FCS crap comes from. You haven't been good these last few years but neither have we. Does that make us borderline FBS too? I think not. Those who live in glass house as they say.

Exactly. Look, I have respect for ECU. They have admittedly done some things on the field that UConn hasn't done. I just can't stand the constant UConn football dissing on this board. Randy Edsall should get UConn back to respectability. Will UConn ever be Alabama? No. However, no current AAC school will ever be Alabama.

UConn and ECU will be trending upwards again. I don't know why some fans just can't embrace that without the constant smack talk, right?

Good lord, sorry I hurt yalls feelings. 03-melodramatic

ECU was putrid last year, UConn was even more putrid. I forgot no one could talk a little smack on a message board. I would hope both teams get better cause there isn't very many other options than go up.

Agreed.

I wish OSU would agree 2 move that game 2
a night game on Thursday 8/31 or Wednesday 8/30
It'd B a great "rival" game
2 kick off the college f-ball season
TV would like that

The fan who just admitted how horrible ECU was last year is condescending? Makes sense. And pretty bad the year before as well, and while we're at it I might as well bring up the fact we haven't done crap in the AAC since we've been in it.

Is that better?

That's a weird statement. We all play an entire conference slate every year.
Looks like it can be a repeat of last year is what I'm referring too. We have some solid teams that are only getting better this year but still don't have the recognition that goes along with it. I think as a conference we can only have a team with two losses. Looks hard to do as we only get better.

USF should and could be 6-0 at the end of September. Temple and Illinois are the two roadblocks. After that you hope for the road blocks to a high ranking to start falling as we get into the meat of the schedule.

True. It also depends on which of our teams is good in a given year. I would argue that only 3 teams in the conference have schedules where a 2-loss record would even get on the radar this year.

UCF - AAC + GT and Maryland
Houston - AAC + Arizona and Texas Tech
ECU - AAC + WVU and VT

If I missed one, please let me know. And yes, I realize that the timing for ECU to have such a competitive schedule is terrible, because we currently stink.

IF one of those three teams has 2 or less losses that don't include losses to the OOC opponents
AND the OOC opponents are decent this year
AND the rest of the conference is half-way respectable in their OOC schedules
...then maybe we produce a legitimate team. Same as Houston last year. They played a great schedule.

A 2-loss champion with a schedule like USF, SMU, Memphis, or Navy's probably won't do us any favors and, to your point, will probably give Boise another NY6 bid.

Your point still stands though.

As for the East, I'm not expecting much from Cinci or UConn either. ECU could cause some headaches maybe but i don't see any reason to expect much more from them this year.

That UCF / USF game could be big... Finally

I hope I'm wrong but I think we are at least a year away from really being competitive again. We may knock off some low hanging fruit but I don't see much more and there isn't much low hanging fruit in this league.
I agree. A year ahead of Cinci and UConn for sure. If temple can reload (unlikely) i think they are ahead of ECU. Behind if not. UCF #2, with South Florida clear #1 but there's some hesitation with the new regime

People said the exact same this about Temple last year too. Temple plays a lot of players every year. I think there will be a drop off but they should still go bowling. Temple's biggest question mark is QB. They certainly have a RB and WRs to mask that inexperience.

We shall see.

I didn't say you guys would hit the gutter, but the hole at QB and a new coaching staff in a team that only recently saw success with Walker and Rhule should leave people skeptical.

I'm with you, but maybe a tad more pessimistic

USF appears to have an outside shot at running the table, pretty favorable schedule.

Not the type OOC games to get them into the playoffs even if that does happen IMO.

Sounds like the same deal UCF got last year (minus the basketball). Enjoy the B1G refs.

You think we're two full seasons away from being competitive? Man, I think you are going to be surprised.

We won't win the east or anything this year, but the issue at UC was much more rooted in the coaching and the culture than a dearth of talent on the field. UCF should know that better than anyone.

I'm with you, but maybe a tad more pessimistic

lol you're penalizing us for having a nearly 4 year starter at QB?
