Definitely not. The Big West would have been horrible for the rest of our sports. Considering the AAC's TV contract is equally as bad as the MW's, and the conference is only marginally better (top to bottom), it was not worth sacrificing the rest of our sports.

I would have enjoyed road trips to Memphis and New Orleans though.

Yeah, ECU has some long term series with old rivals locked up too, plus BYU at home this season. We have the OOC schedules to make some noise. Just have to get out of this slump and go back to the typical ECU winning ways.

MWC is a good conference with some quality programs. The rest, you could lump them all together and they'd all come out about the same, with the exception of CUSA, that conference is hands down the worst. W.Ky (not sure if they're in CUSA or Sun Belt) was good last year, but the others were really bad (teams and programs).

In football, the Massey Composite lists the following conferences after the AAC for the just concluded season:

MWC
SunBelt
MAC
CUSA

In basketball, the AAC is ranked the 7th strongest conference (out of 32) despite a subpar year. The following shows rankings for selected conferences:

MWC (9th)
MAC (13th)
Sunbelt (14th)
CUSA (20th)

I would put CUSA a little higher. They've got about to same bowl deal as the American, which isn't very good.
