The two schools have played each other more than 300 times across all sports. Plus judging by your message board, seems like your own fans are thinking this is a much bigger rivalry than those on the UCF boards.

There's actually 2 trophies. One for overall sports ("Director's Cup-type") and one for football only

The rivalry isn't forced, as you say, UCF and USF are natural rivals. But this official branding and the commissioning of the trophy is forced.

Probably an effort to show we can work together if need be... In hopes for 2 Florida schools going to the Big12.

That why we got announcement at the beginning of the year and now we are just getting trophy pics and stuff.

Good point, it probably was PR for the Big 12 push, and I can't blame us for teaming up on that. Was worth the effort.

Yeah because USF has football tradition dating back to...well....1997. LOL

This guys just does not want to admit that it is a rivalry because he thinks it somehow validates UCF by admitting it. It is the closest thing to a rivalry that USF will EVER have. and it is the closest thing to a rivalry that the AAC has. It IS a rivalry and it is a good one. Feel the hate! That is a good hate. It means that you have something to play for other than the difference between a bowl in Miami and a bowl in Tampa.
