I believe Herman knows he will have other offers from programs equally if not more attractive than LSU, none of which just fired the coach with the best winning % in school history.
Not really. If Miles had changed his offensive scheme and was sitting at 2-2 right now, he would never had been fired. People were just so tired of the scheme, QB situation and the fact that the team has been straight up loaded with offensive skill players yet the offense is constantly a mess.
Many here are underestimating the LSU job, it's the easiest recruiting situation in the nation. The facilities compete with any school and the gameday atmosphere is #1. Is there pressure, sure, but all top jobs carry the same pressure. When you have the most NFL players in all of college football you sure as hell should win a ton of games. Ultimately it was determined that the talent level came more from the LSU's competitive advantages as opposed to Miles ability to develop and recruit talent. Who knows if the admin/boosters are correct.

All these jobs that are coming open have many things in common... the biggest being they suck right now.
I have no idea what Herman is going to do but he will be the Houston coach to finish all 14/15 games this year.

If Herman wants to possibly lose his job with a ridiculously good winning % and after losing a game by a second then go to LSU.
He isn't going to LSU.

Having lived in SEC Country for over 60 years and following CFB for over 50, one thing is certain. When certain SEC Schools (think Bama, LSU, now TA&M, Tennessee, Auburn and Florida) make up their mind that they want a particular person as a coach, they get him. What do all of those schools except TA&M have in common, a NC within the last 20 years. Some (FLA, LSU and Bama) have more than one. And they are among the top 10 to 12 in facilities and resources. Which means they can pay assistant coaches too.

Add UGA to that list. They wanted Kirby Smart, Alum, former player, GA there. They'll have to fire him to make him leave.

RE: Tom Herman to LSU
Herman is gonna have his pick of whatever jobs are open, or he can stay in Houston and continue making 3 million or so a year and be beloved. LSU is on a different planet than the USCe job he turned down. Texas could be open, the real USC could be open, at this point Notre Dame could be open, and then who knows what else will be out there. I don't see Herman leaving for anything other than a truly elite of the elite opening, as he should he's getting paid really well and has Houston to a point that he can probably sustain it as long as he wants to stay there. Herman can be as picky as he wants to be, and if he truly covets the Texas job he can wait it out for that one if he wants.

I'm not saying Herman is staying or going however this statement is the absolute truth. There could be Texas, Southern Cal, Auburn, (even Florida state and a slim chance with Notre Dame) being open most of which comes with boatloads of money and less demand of winning.
LSU probably should have come to a 'mutual' agreement with Miles that this would be his last year and he could retire being the most successful coach in history then become some made up athletic director assistant to football.
I get every coach should want to challenge themselves against the best but letting Miles go like this must make potential coaches think twice.

This sentence indicates you don't really have a good grasp of the situation, or else you're just trying to suggest UH is in no position to afford him, which I guess still indicates you don't have a good grasp of the situation.
$3 mil is his current contract, what it gets renegotiated to remains yet to be seen, but it's obvious you'll be surprised when UH offers a matching deal.
Herman will get a raise one way or another, here or at another school.
