Looks like the USM fan base
Looks like our attendance is finally on the upswing and returning to normal with almost 28,000 in the Rock last night regardless of a downpour starting in the afternoon causing a game delay of about 30 min or more. Heavy rain continued until into second half and the concession folks must have made a fortune selling rain slickers. We might win again if our receivers can learn to catch the ball. Disregard refs, etc. No excuses, we lost.
The crowd last night was less than our first game but no question it was because of weather conditions otherwise the numbers would have been in the 30's.

I would guess a 1,000 but I sit on the same side a few sections down so hard for me to see. They brought more than Tulane* or Memphis even did when they were conference mates but probably half as many as Louisiana did on thier last visit.
They were loud enough and made an interesting game atmosphere, something we rarely see at the Rock.
I would like to see the series continue.
*CORRECTION Tulane easily brought the largest CUSA crowd ever to the Rock in '99.

Troy usually travels their band. Surprised they didn't go. About a 350-400 member band that's louder than most bands you will ever see.

I'd also like to see the series extended. Our current AD was your assistant AD, so I'm sure we could work something out.
But for now... see ya at the vet next year!

Didn't know that. Plan on being there next year.
Having been to Troy I assume a local hotel room is hard to come by on game day. Any tips other than Montgomery?

Dothan is about 45mins south of Troy. It's about Hattiesburg size. There's about 5-6 good decent hotels in Troy. You can get a room if u book far enough out.

Drive the 2 hours to PC Beach and enjoy the ocean and white sand beaches..
room rates will compare to those in Troy or any other city for anything but a cheap chain. For around $80 to $100 a night you will get right on the beach facing the ocean. This is what I miss most about not being in a conference with Troy. Go on a Thursday or Friday and spent the weekend

personally, I'd opt out for orange beach/b'ham for golf/fishing venues....but that's just me....
but yeah, make it a mini vacation if an overnight stay is req'd....

Looking forward to Southern Miss coming to Troy in three years. Everyone was very hospitable. We will certainly treat any USM fans that make the trip the same way.

RE: Looks like the USM fan base
Hemi Man and Trojan Brutha, I remember you guys from when we were in the belt. Good to see you on here. While I root for C-USA teams now of course, I have to admit that it's nice watching Troy get their mojo back.
When we played Troy from 04 through 2012, Troy fielded some dangerous squads that featured dynamic offense and straight up mean defense. No matter how good we were playing in 2006-2010, Troy just ate our lunch. I still have nightmares about the 2006 game at our house when we had Troy beat us for the outright SBC championship with like 3 minutes to go and they scored twice and snatched it from us. We ended up "sharing" the title because we both had 1 loss but it was Troy's. 2007, they dismantled Okie St. and caused Mike Gundy to deliver his famous "I'm and man and I'm 40" speech the Tuesday after Troy destroyed them on national TV. 5 straight SBC titles.
Not gonna say I enjoyed our losses to Troy at all but I respected the heck out of what they had built and it was sad to see them lose that momentum and suffer through the last few years. Seeing them field that D now and score proficiently again is pretty cool to see. That Clemson game was awesome. Good luck on the rest of the season. Please destroy Arky St. :-)

yes Attended. They were 8 deep under the End Zone roof, the boxes were full, and the sheltered areas of the stadium were full. Saw it on the west side. They scan you ticket now so that they can get a more accurate count to report to the NCAA.
Hell, we could have a hard sell out and people would be saying no way there were 36,000 in attendance.

The ticket scan is just so the ticket can't be used again. As stated earlier, attendance is tickets sold. Has nothing to do with the scan.

Yeah, there weren't 27k there. Maybe 18k, but not 27k. But whatever.
On the flipside, I don't think "we're back" yet. We were undefeated playing a good Troy team. We'll be lucky to have 24k for Rice.

If we can take care of business at UTEP as well as have a good weather day I could see us getting around 27k-28k for Rice. Now if we lay an egg at UTEP and the weather is like the Troy game then yeah I'll agree with the 24k or less.
