Rumor Has It
App is close to inking a 4 game deal with ECU. 1 in Boone, 1 in Charlotte, 2 in Greenville.

Meh...That's basically a 2 for 1. I wouldn't sign up for that with an SEC school, much less another G5.

That's still a sweet little series deal. When would first game be?

It is?
App fans don't appear very happy with it. They are essentially treating themselves as a subordinate to ECU, rather than a peer.

You'd be insane not to sign up for that with an SEC school.

Bad deal if we have unequal home games. ECU is a peer.

There was talk at one point about trying something like that with Ole Miss, and our fans were overwhelmingly against it.
Give us a home and home, pay us 1.6 million to come to your place, or don't play is our philosophy.

I think it hurts your ability to schedule AAC teams in the future. Now if you contact another AAC school about a home and home, they are going to look at the deal you gave ECU and want the same thing.
It sets a bad precedence. ECU is not some special entity, you don't have to play them. There are 127 other FBS Teams you can face.

Taking into consideration their competitive history, budget and attendance ECU is not a peer program. The Pirates have averaged between 43-51K since 2010. Until we SEAT a minimum of 35K we won't have the leverage to demand an equal deal. Why would they agree to more? Some App fans have a very inflated opinion of a program that's been officially (bowl eligible) FBS for 1 year.

What AAC team will move the needle with App fans the way ECU does? UCF, USF, Houston or UConn sure won't.

i'm sure the large amount of app fans that live in the Charlotte area played a role in accepting this deal. I could see Louisiana doing a deal like this with 1 of our games being played in New Orleans.

How is the revenue shared for the Charlotte game? I assume 50:50, which would make it I guess a 2 for 1.5 instead of a 2 for 1.
I'm not a fan of 2 for 1s but this IMO is borderline.

Nice - now beat them silly.
Would have been a bit better if you could have each had a home game and 2 neutral site games - but it is part of the process to further establishing yourself in FBS.

We used to do 50/50 with South Carolina when we'd play them in Charlotte. Not sure how this would work or if it will be at BoA.

With the fan bases, it has to be BoA Stadium. I think it would be a great get for App. This could become a great rivalry game.

agree, we have had a great start in the FBS, but, we aren't at the level of ECU...yet. They consistently play in front of 45,000, they have been in the FBS since the late 70's, they have played and won alot of bowl games, and they have beaten alot more P5 schools than us. Don't get me wrong, if I was ECU, after seeing how we have done in our first 3 years, I would be worried as hell we are going to take their place as the best G5 program in NC, but right as this moment we haven't earned the right to demand equal number of H/H games, maybe in a couple of years, but not now.

Of course I would rather have a home and home, or a 2 for 2, but this will suffice for me. I'm okay swallowing my pride to play this game, it's one I've been wanting for a while. I'm not too concerned about setting a precedent for other AAC teams with this as their isn't any other AAC team that we would wanna play badly enough for them to have the bargaining power. Besides, we have straight up home and homes with ACC teams, and we can certainly use that as a precedent too.

To be fair, ECU has proven themselves more on this level than APP has. At this juncture, they a few steps higher on the college football ladder. I do think APP's potential is higher than ECU's though.

RE: Rumor Has It
ya, I don't understand some of my fellow App brothers reservations about playing Charlotte, I believe Apps largest alumi base is in Charlotte, with Winston Salem/Greensboro the second largest, just a couple of hours away, and ECU has a large alumi base in Charlotte. I could see App bringing 20 thousand plus, with ECU around 25 thousand, plus walk ups, I could see 50-55 thousand, why wouldn't you want to play that game?
