RE: Coaches Poll: Mountaineers Picked to Win League Title in 2016
In the Tuesday July, 26 edition of the Jonesboro Sun, Matt Roberson (a writer chastised for being a Razorback fan, and having an anti-ASU agenda by A-State fans, and certainly not considered a homer), made his prediction of the order of finish this year in the SBC.
Thought some of his comments might be of interest to some.
His predicted order of finish: 1. A-State, 2.AppSt,3. GaSo,4.ULL,5. GaSt,6. Troy,7. Idaho.,8. USA,9. NMSU,10. TxSt,11 .ULM.
A-State- ".. look at the defensive side of the football, where the talent boils over. ASU owns this league and it will be a while before anyone catches up."
AppSt-" The Mountaineers are Arkansas State's closest competition in the SBC, but they're still a year or two away from really being a contender."
GaSo- " The Eagles are under new head coach Tyson Summers and have a new defensive coordinator, ..."
ULL- " With 14 starters back, including senior running back Elijah McGuire, it's hard to imagine ULL remaining down for a second straight year."
GaSt- " It would be easy to dismiss the upstart Panthers, but with 16 starters returning, including nine on defense, there's a lot to like."
Troy-" This team has the makings of a darkhorse, and is one that could pull a surprise or two."
Idaho- "Now in coach Paul Petrino's fourth year, the Vandals are poised for a winning record and bowl game with 14 starters back...."
USA- " This year USA has 10 returning starters, five on each side of the ball, but the team is still very green. There's a lot of potential for this program but it's got a lot of growth to do before tapping into it."
NMSU- " Junior running back Larry Rose will be exciting to watch and the defense should improve with seven returning starters. Just don't expect that much improvement."
TxSt- "With only 10 starters returning, the Bobcats have a long road in front of them."
ULM- " ULM returns eight starters on offense but only three on defense. ULM is a tough place to win for any coach."
