Sorry but the P5 will never approve this. I would be happy with this:
8 team playoff:
1. P5 conference champs get in.
2. Highest ranked G5 conference champ gets in
3. Two highest ranked non-conference champions with stipulation that G5 champs get in if they are ranked higher than non champion P5 teams.

I'd personally prefer an eight-team field, with one or two guaranteed spots for G5s. As much as I'd love us to be on equal footing with P5s, the reality is that three of the five G5 conferences (varying conferences in any given year) are going to have champions that are not even in top 30/40 of college football teams, and I don't think you can include those teams in a national championship. Could you include a 1-loss or undefeated Boise, UH, Marshall, etc? Absolutely. But not a 4 loss Sun Belt team.

Nope, Wilkie is right, 16 teams is the right number. It's irrelevant to me what the p5 wants, or what realistically could happen. If FCS can have a 24 team playoff, certainly FBS could do 16. 4 weeks of college football playoffs through the month of December, what college football fan could be against that?

Do you really want to watch Arkansas State play Alabama?

Game would be played in Alabama, so the stadium would be filled.

Never gonna know at this point, because this conference is about to become CUSA the ocho.
This was my exact thoughts on UC's position in the Big East. Great basketball,
good football and nice rivalries. Even if they get in the B12, I still would like the old BE with a decent paycheck and a GOR.

Didn't really like the Big East as constructed. Would have liked to see the all-sports schools split off from the non-football schools. May have stopped some of them from defecting.

Go 6 for the playoffs...#s1&2 get a bye week 1. 1-5 P5 champs and 1 at large from highest ranked non p5 champ G5, Indy, or other.
I prefer 8 too, just think it's a pipe dream

Obviously, I'm a fan of one of the universities under consideration. But I, too, have been very pleased with this conference. With consideration of the two major sports, the AAC is by far the best "non-power" conference. It's been our best home since 1995 (SWC).

Looking back, a conference consisting of WVU, Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers, UConn, Louisville, Cincy, and USF was a pretty solid conference. But no matter how many BCS bowls we won, no matter how many other BCS schools we beat, we were constantly ragged on and told how weak we were. We actually rooted for each other instead of against each other. But ultimately, the constant downplaying of our accomplishments created discourse, leading to everyone looking for a lifeboat into "stronger" conferences.
