No joke. How many times did App beat them anyway?

58-18-1 apparently. Of course they've only lost to them twice since 1985.

I think football rings after wins but it may have been elevated just to conference championships or better.
Edit: Found this page with info: http://pikappccu.org/chad-m-beaty-memori...-bell.html
Quote:In 2010, the Eta Pi Chapter celebrated its 15th anniversary at CCU. At this monumental milestone, the chapter donated a bell tower to the university that can be seen between Brooks Stadium and Springs Brooks Baseball Stadium. The victory bell is rung after a Chanticleer football win and by any Chanticleer team that wins a Big South Championship or National Championship. The Eta Pi chapter raised the $26,000 to construct the tower and it was named the Chad M. Beaty Memorial Victory Bell after the founder of the Eta Pi Chapter. The bell is recognized as a tradition of the university and athletic department at Coastal Carolina University.
Also the bell, comes from a Charleston church's bell tower, which is the founding site of Pi Kappa Phi. The bell is rang after all football wins, conference championships, and national championships.

I have to admit the school bus tradition is pretty awesome. I like that it started out of a basic need but has continued even after the program grew. It's unlike so many other "traditions" that were created instead of naturally building.

Some boosters got together and arranged for school buses to pick up the team from the team hotel to take them to the bowl game. Players had no idea it was going to happen until they walked outside. From those who were present, they went insane and couldn't get onboard fast enough. I was walking around the front of the hotel and saw them driving by from a distance and knew exactly what had just happened.

After a home win, probably away wins too, the clock tower in the library glows red all night. That and winning pretty much sums it up.
I guess you could add stopping by Andy's for some frozen custard on the way home since a few hundred do that.
We used to have a lot of them......horse running after each touchdown, freshman football players beating the tom tom day and night 24/7 during homecoming week, planting that spear behind the end zone, even the cannon or the Indian Brave throwing fire......but they have all gone the way of the Dodo bird.

Was any of that forced out since we had to change mascots? Or did it just happen? I would really love for some old traditions to come back or some new (and good) ones to start. Personally, I would be 110% behind bringing the war drum back for student organizations to beat leading up to the homecoming game. I've heard it was a very cool thing.

Most of it was due to the mascot change. The cannon actually exploded one night and blew a guy's foot off.

At stAte, our best tradition is lighting the bell tower red after wins. In a classy move, they lit it orange when Pat Summit died.

Me too, and I don't remember it either. I've been told the story from multiple trustworthy people, including one of the guy's frat brothers who knew him pretty well.
I did notice they just sort of abruptly stopped.

I'm sure it won't be long until that gets nixed courtesy of the Offended By Everything Coalition.
