Didn't say it was a reason a P5 wouldn't come (but it is part of it, whether you agree or not). I believe it would be great and in the long run help grow the program to host a P5 not just once every 10 years, but at least every other year. But this is about money and getting paid. As Paulson stands now we lose a lot of money opting for a home and home vs a $1M+ payday. We just have too few seats to offer season tickets, visitors, walkups and students. A 2 for 1 is a non-starter (unless it's Bama or Notre Dame, but I'm sooner to win the lotto then that happening).

Money is GS's biggest issue. IF we find a way to get $3M+ more each year in funding then scheduling becomes a lot easier. Now we have now leverage and have to take what we can get and everyone knows it.

Exactly. If you are going to get $1M+ for a one and done, then you have to be able to make at least that in order for it to make economical sense to push for the 1-1.

I also whole believe stadium size does matter to an extent. They have to keep their fan base happy. If you can not give the P5 an ample amount of tickets to sell to their fans then they will most likely go play somewhere else.

I definitely see your point, but for a team like Georgia Southern, I think that the intangible benefits of excitement, prestige, recognition, etc. for being able to host a P5 (if it was the right one) could lead to future benefits. i.e., you might lose money on that particular game day, but you might see a big increase in season ticket purchases, casual fans coming out to the game, local media coverage, merchandise sales, etc.

Lots of people say we'll need to expand to 30k before we can get a legit P5 to visit, but I feel like if we could get one first, it could spur investment, and be an impetus for that expansion to occur. Chicken or egg, I reckon.

Does anyone know how much their schools make during a sellout game?

It could be us this year when Miami comes to town. Just under 25k actual seats with the possibility of temp seating and the grass SRO bank. I'm expecting a total of 33k.

It would vary on ticket prices. Usually the sell out games are priced differently.

We've got several signed with right at 20K. Charlotte has Duke playing there but not for several more years. VT did put a clause in the second contract they signed (the first was a 2-1, the second a 2-2) that we need to have a new stadium before they came but to the best of my knowledge there was no stipulation on the size it had to be. We're only adding about 2,000 more seats initially. NC State made some noise about our stadium not being big enough but they sent back a couple thousand tickets unsold last year. We could certainly make more playing away but the fans & players want these types of games at home so if you can make it happen you should imo.

You are definitely correct. The extra buzz around town, the increase in ticket sales, the increased interest from casual fans, plus letting people know that the local university football team sells out (makes it a hot ticket item,) are all things that are invaluable. You can not put a price tag on all of that, as well as the increased media attention. Also can not put a price tag on the value of a casual/first timer fan coming to a sold out game with electric atmosphere vs a known P5 opponent. Great opportunity to hook people and entice them to come back in the future.

@bobcat- I have no idea how much we actually make for a sold out game in terms of dollars. I do know that the single game prices for the P5 games are usually a little bit more money. I would guess we average an additional 10-12,000 fans for the P5 home games overall. So that is also an additional 10-12,000 fans at the concession stand too.

I wouldn't trade our P5 home games for any amount of money I have seen G5s getting for their 1 and done deals. Obviously if someone wanted to pay us $10 million for a one and done I would want to do that, but thats never going to happen.

It's not the only reason but it is a reason. Lack of seating limits allotment which hurts what P5 or good G5 can recoup in expenses. If you have team A that can give you 1000 more tickets than team B all other things being somewhat equal team A loses every time. Our stadium is about 66% FBS legit. Until we can seat what is considered decent attendance in the FBS, give a real allotment to close teams and get rid of that sheet metal eyesore we will be continue to lose out on opportunities and limit growth.

I dont expect it to be done overnight and is also why I dont jump all over our AD or think other teams with slightly better CURRENT circumstances have genuis AD's. GSU can give 20K in an allotment and still have a ton of space, I doubt we could give 2K.

You guys have a significant advantage that Georgia Southern doesn't in a bunch of nearby P5's willing to travel to a G5 in order to ensure close road games for fans.

For many of our programs, unless you are located in a recruiting hotbed, you're going to have to lie, cheat, steal, and if necessary kill, in order to get a P5 to come here.

No doubt. Being surrounded by ACC teams that all want to play in the Hampton Roads area as opposed to a bunch of SEC teams that won't have any trouble recruiting South GA regardless is certainly an advantage.

My guess is that Idaho officially has the record, but I'm not digging back through their archives to prove it.

The same inherent advantage exist for App. I'm not sure why, but ACC teams have proven far more willing to travel locally for G5 games.

From an Arkansas State Perspective, we had to raise our guarantee rate to nearly $2 million to ensure getting games, since SEC's will find any way to avoid traveling.

ODU is doing very well with their scheduling. I think it helps that the state schools are willing ot play nice and they are in a recruiting hotbed for that part of the country. Regardless, I give their AD massive credit for getting so many great series.
