As a Div. III participant, Mt. Union can't offer athletic full rides. They can offer academic scholarships.

But they have a great program with solid talent. My guess is that some who slip out of D 1 or are even considering have a good opportunity to win and win the big one at Mt. Union.

While I hope we'll see him in Bronco Brown & Gold, with grades and scores like he has, he may want to consider an Ivy or one of the service academies.

Also, per a previous poster, D-III schools usually are outstanding academically, but are unable to offer athletic scholarships. His grades and scores would likely allow him to receive generous academic scholarships.

The young man should decide where he would be most comfortable academically and socially, then plug football into the equation. If it equals WMU in the end, wonderful!

You guys are all missing the key phrase. "Going into his junior year."

He's a 2018 recruit. Not unusual for a junior to be to have limited D1 interest. As he approaches his senior year that may change.

Did he start on Varsity as a Sophomore?

If he wants to be a Bronco he should attend one of our Summer camps so coaches get to know him-get a look at him.

Whenever someone tells me they have a scholarship offer from a D3 school my BS meter goes off and I doubt any of the other "facts" a parent rattles off.

Since you can't offer football scholarships at D3, and colleges aren't giving academic scholarship guarantees to a kid in 10th grade I think this is nothing more than talk. This kid might be a decent player, I looked him up decent size needs to improve his footwork significantly to play D1 , being a soph he has time to develop still. But in my time coaching I'd say don't buy words but film. My opinion is he's the best lineman in his class at his school (probably has been his whole life), I didn't get the sense he was the best lineman on his team though. And for a school his size if you aren't the best lineman on your team, it's hard to talk D1 in any form yet. He's got 12 months left to grow and impress though and hone his skill so it's certainly something to work for.

On a semi unrelated point, I've had many parents whose kid was a D3 type kid that viewed the MAC as a baby step up and assumed that was within range. Educating them on the significant jump between those levels was hard.

It is extremely frustrating to deal with a significant number of people who think WMU, CMU and the MAC are D-II programs. They are usually all MSU and U-M fans, too.

Dumb, ignorant azz holes.
