According to some of the resident geniuses on the board, the coach can't make the players make shots, so when the players DO make shots...isn't it really their glory, not the coaches?

Shouldn't the UTEP win therefore be a Joe Jackson or Chris Crawford or Tarik Black moment?

Or maybe...just maybe...the resident geniuses were always making excuses for the guy while throwing the players under the energy bus.

Maybe.

And a Will Barton moment. He was still playin.

And he was still remembering that it was a game when he offered Randy Culpepper his hand and Culpepper faked out the refs.

I think the UTEP win in the tourney was also Paz's best moment.
At that point in time....the future seemed to hold so much promise for our team, recruiting, coaching etc.
It kind of all went downhill after that....the era of the 4 Kings not withstanding.

This is a really sad high point. Even the two wins against Louisville are a sad reminder of what should have been.

Agreed.

Points to the fact that the best moment for anyone associated with the team was the second he agreed to terms with GT

We had some exciting games that year, but it all went kaboom with that UConn game in the AAC tourney. What an embarrassment

o no...all we try to do is remember the best moments and the worst come tumblin in.

Sometimes I think that the people who work so hard at forgetting the bad times are the ones who wind up forgetting all the times.

Good times bad times you know I've had my share...

RE: Best Pastner moment?
I think Pastner did several things well, unfortunately coaching wasn't his best suit. I can think of no games where he was stellar in his coaching and many opportunities he failed to take up for his players which could have really unified and turned his teams mindset around. He was a great leader in terms of developing maturity and stressing academics and personal responsibility. I think college staffs need a guy like Pastner just not as head or even lead assistant. He seems to have zero feel for the flow of a game or intuition when it comes to decision making changes in real time live situations. His overall concept is good I think and he is a ray of sunshine, usually, working his tail off. I genuinly liked him but it was obvious he was in over his head.

I think he will eventually get the details worked out if he finds the right assistant coach, turns the reigns over to him, and learns from him. He always needed a mentor here, had he ever had one we would have done well as Pastner could recruit. I am so grateful to the Tiger players who worked so hard under him, but saddened we didn't spend some of the money we saved from Cals departure and apply it to a real live mentor on the bench and keep him for continuity and direction instead of the revolving door staff Pastner employed. Pastner was far too hard headed for a first time head coach, and it led to his downfall.

His recruiting was great, not top 10 nationally perhaps but close, which makes his average record, especially in games that counted re: against top 25 type teams. Im thinking his greatest moment here was the finish to beat UTEP on their own floor for the NCAA bid. Truthfully, that one and most of his gaudy record the first few years are a reflection of Joe Jackson, and Will Barton.

Joe Jackson has earned so much respect from me for the way he gutted it out here despite Pastners mistakes. Without JJ, Pastner would have been gone a couple of years earlier and never received his big contract imo. Joe Jackson will always be one of if not the most under rated Tiger ever to play here due to the poor coaching he and the Tiger teams received under Pastners tenure. Tubby would do well to have a Pastner type recruiter on his staff.

RE: Best Pastner moment?
Honestly I think his best moment was the redemption OSU game. He made all the adjustments and ran the offense through the bigs. I thought that would have been the turning point in his career but they went back to street ball the next game and I lost all hope again.

UTEP win in El Paso, by far. Favorite memory I have from my time in the pep band was the silence in that arena when we won.

When he talked everyone into blowing off the Christmas practice?

When he tripped the S Carolina player ?

Or when he hung on the rim?
