Third: Give Tubby a chance to recruit here and implement his system and players.
Fourth: No rollover on this contract if Tubby isn't getting it done
Fifth: The Lawsons are on board and I'm sure well appreciated
Sixth: Tubbys staff is not beholding to anyone in the Memphis HS hoops arena, much like Cal for good reasons.
Seventh: It is a new day and our Tiger future is bright, at least potentially, and Pastner well, good news.
Funny...
So we are in the same situation we were with Pastner this year except we owe Tubby 15Million this year 12 Million Next year and so on and so on instead of 10.6 , 8, 5.4 and so on and so on with Pastner.
But now we have a coach.
With a staff with a history of NOT being able to recruit and moving the only guy who does have any rapport with the local talent and coaches to a position where he is not allowed to recruit.
Making it so he has to be careful if he even goes to watch his own son play ball.
What makes you think he has brought any more recruits than his two sons? I am almost to the point that I hope Tubby doesn't concentrate on Memphis talent too much. If a kid wants to play here, fine. But it seems to me that during the last coaching regime we catered too much to the AAU crowd for outstanding local recruits (no offense, Mr. Eastwood). It got to the point that it appeared to me the inmates were running the asylum. We have an adult in charge now, and he knows what kind of players he wants to play his way - not going after the next "shiny object" to catch his attention if it doesn't fit.
I'm of the opinion that anyone that uses the "can't recruit Memphis kids" excuse to criticize the coach of his caliber before he has even broken out a whistle and run his first practice must have the mental acuity of a lab rat in a drug addiction experiment.
Mainly because he actually has a rapport with the local coaches and players. His sons are the core which makes other local players more interested in staying home and playing with them.
So far Orlando has shown that he is unable to beat out the likes of Utah St for a bargain basement player that no other Tiger coach in the past 25 years would even offer.
While his replacement at Texas Tech walked into a program which according to most of the experts in here makes it impossible to recruit and beat out Kansas for a juco All American.

Where did you hear this idiocy?
He goes to see his son play he cannot even approach and talk to his own son if his son is standing near a player that is recruit-able. He would be guilty of improper contact. .
the amazing thing about you is that you can continually amaze the board with your stupidity, you would think that we would be used to your stupid posts by now but here you are surprising us all over again
Hello Mr Pot have you met Mr Kettle. In his new position he can have NO CONTACT with any potential recruit off campus. No contact means NO CONTACT what so ever. What part of that can your minuscule mind not comprehend.

You gotta leave racecarguy alone. His crush has left for another program and he can't get over it. Obviously his love for the former coach is more important to him than the program that he in fact seems to be rooting for the current coach to fail irrespective of any further damage this may do to the program.

He actually gives them another guy on the road, he legally can watch his son's play AAU ball whether it's a live or dead period.
Pretty smart actually, that's 2-3 different age groups he will be in front of.
Think about it

Having a rapport with local coaches and players hasn't brought anyone else but his sons. Can you name ANY player other than his sons he's brought in?
Again, I'll take an adult coach with a NC over your clownshow crush. Coach Smith can coach and doesn't need to be beholding to the local AAU crowd to the detriment of the program. Given time, he'll get what he needs to compete, which will be a breath of fresh air compared to the spectacle we've had to endure the last couple of years.

The same school who's previous coach was the son of the school's most famous coach - who is still very much involved with the program.
