Sounds like a colossal screw up to me, but one that might at least bring in some donor funds in the short term.

Keatts had no college experience as a head coach and has worked out ok so far I would say. Don't bother with the Hargrave job,its basically high school. He got the job at Louisville because he delivered Harrell not because he was a great high school coach.

Actually Hargrave isn't "basically high school"..it IS high school. But to treat it like it's just any old high school, and the job he did there the same just any old high school coach borders on absurd.

Thanks. Glad I didn't have to bother with that explanation. Mullet being Mullet. LOL.

I like the Spiker pick at Drexel, and the JMU hire sucked.

JMU are the only ones okay with the JMU hire, and only around half of them are excited about it from the sound of things.

Its not regular high school like Hoggard or New Hanover and he did a nice job there. Not spectacular but good and delivered the man to Pitino on time-make no mistake that is why he was hired. If Harrell goes to UConn he might still be at Hargrave right now.

Yeh, right. That's why Pitino told him he didn't bring him there to be an assistant. He brought him there to be a coach. Mullet throws out such BS.

The guy had NO chance to be hired at Louisville if Harrell does not go there with him. Don't bury your head in the sand, the facts are there. He was a recruiter there and don't bring up the associate HC crap,it means zero. Harrell won a NCAA title for Pitino and he threw Keatts a bone. If he was so important there you would think Pitino would try to keep him but he left for the first job he could get. He will do the same thing here and he should. Take the homer shades off and do a research on him,you will quickly see that it is widely known how he got the gig at L'ville.

I've done the research and don't agree with you at all. Certainly that didn't hurt, but you don't just elevate someone to Associate HC just as a favor. You get that designation because you were a good assistant.

Mullet is still discrediting Keatts as a HC candidate 2 years after winning 30 CAA games in 2 seasons, winning 2 CAA COY awards and putting up an impressive NCAA Tournament showing against Duke. He was wrong then, remains wrong, and refuses to admit he was wrong. And he's rarely ever right about anything.
But I guess I need to set down the "homer glasses".

Who cares anyways why he was at Louisville? The point is he started as an assistant and was promoted to Associate HC. Then he came to UNCW and has absolutely killed it!
The only important question is when are we going to extend him? Are we waiting for Louisville's NCAA investigation to wrap up?

Meh. It's Mullet. He's different. Plus, it's healthy to have a little dissent regularly. Not a lot. Just a little, which is exactly what the Mullet brings to the table.
Things were fun when we had Cottonballs around here too, but we all know we won't be seeing her around during all this success under Big Jimmy.

The bigger question is why would you extend him? Maybe add one year but anything more is not smart.
