Hearing from sources @CoachMonteRoss has been relieved of duties as @DelawareMBB coach. #BlueHens #CAAHoops

Monte Ross @CoachMonteRoss
I had a great run at UD (10 years)…Thanks to UD for the opportunity, really appreciate you guys, you were great to me and my family!

Interesting. I thought financials would have kept him there another season. Probably my least favorite CAA coach over the years. Guy was a jerk with few redeeming qualities. Delaware deserved better.

Ya know, to the family and friends of the coaches of these schools who may read message boards, I don't think this appropriate.

Haha, I see what you did there.

I hope they read it, so they will know that Monte Ross is a jerk and a terrible coach, and should not be hired by any other D-I school.

Good riddance, I say.

Really??? C'mon man. There's no need to get that salty about ONE of your threads getting closed.

I deleted one of my own threads, thanks to your input and concern as a fellow Seahawk supporter.

Georgia Tech fired Brian Gregory. Tech owes Gregory $1,300,000 and their previous coach Paul Hewitt $2,700,000.

They could find a lot people who would take a lot less to not coach the Yellow Jackets.

Sure that's true, but it's another job chance. Hopefully Keatts is staying home and building our Hawks. Looks good for the Hawks retaining Keatts, but nothing is for sure. Price was mentioned, but doesn't have a lot of experience. He did do pretty good at Charlotte where they didn't really have much talent, but made them decent at the end. When's the last time you could say that UNCC didn't have much talent? Not that often, but that was the case. The usual suspects are also in there but who know's?

Gregory seemed to complain a bunch and not motivate. Unless your at the very top like a Carolina or Duke, you have to be somewhat of a motivator and not have a bad look on your face all the time. Just my take....

Not the same ACC is it used to be. GT can't compete at the top any longer.

He does have a three year plan that we are ahead of.

RE: Monte Ross joins Brady and Bruiser as fired coaches - geezerhawkdad - 03-26-2016 11:41 AM

Starting with Bobby Cremins, Tech recruited one and dones. 20 years later, they have trouble recruiting kids who want to stay on that campus 4 years. The fan base and administration do not seem to have the patience to allow a coach to build a program with 4 year players. Tech cannot attract the high quality one year players Duke and Kentucky sign.

JMU lost their highly successful women's coach, Kenny Brooks, to Virginia Tech. Ouch.

Zach Spiker was hired by Drexel this past Thursday for those keeping tabs.

I bet their boards are on melt down

In less than a year they'll have had to replace their coaches for football, both men's and women's basketball, and baseball. Their 4 biggest sports, in that order.

Drexel hired Army's head coach Zach Spiker. He did a pretty good job at Army getting them their 1st postseason tournament since 1978 this last year. Young guy. At first glance I really like it

Army is a tough place to win. Last year was their first winning season in 28 years. Having a 19-win season (18 against D-I) and reaching the Patriot League Semifinal was a substantial accomplishment.

I agree, this is a solid hire. If he could have even a modicum of success at Army he can win anywhere.

Spiker also runs an aggressive, up-tempo scheme, which is a complete 180 from Bruiser's system. He'll have a lot of growing pains installing a brand new system, but in the long run it could work very well.

He'll only have growing pains if he can't scrape up some players for that system. Coach Keatts has had very minimal growing pains.

Drexel is a highly difficult place to recruit. Nor do they likely have a guy like Craig Ponder on their roster, who played for the new coach previously, and stopped others from transferring.

And we forget that even Keatts had some growing pains the first half of that first season. We lost a bad game to Campbell and were relying heavily on Gettys being able to run the floor when he was a good bit heavier at the time. It takes time for guys to buy into a system, and our overall success that first season makes us forget it in hindsight. The presence of Jordon Talley and Ponder in the backcourt, 2 guys most familiar with that system, was huge for us that year. Not so sure Drexel will have a Talley or a Ponder to rely on.

Not saying he can't do it, but he's entering at Drexel having basically zero ties to that area from a recruiting basis. He's coming from a smaller program whereas Keatts had the pedigree of being a top assistant at a high-level P5 school.

BIG differences between the 2 hires.

RE: Monte Ross joins Brady and Bruiser as fired coaches - Seahawk Nation 08 - 03-28-2016 07:40 PM

Also, Buzz's system was fairly uptempo. Bruiser's meanwhile, was all about keeping games in the 50s and relying on muscle rather than speed, athleticism, and a little bit of finesse.

Bottom line is that there will need to be some patience for Spiker. Not sure if Drexel is accepting of JUCO types but that would likely need to be a route they use to acquire some bodies early on.
