Next season UAB will be able to fill in gaps we find this spring and fall and target some quality guys. Plus, we won't have to fight the "you won't play for a whole season" line.
Do the UAB signees get, in effect, a free year? Meaning does next year not count against the 5 to play 4 timetable? If it doesn't, you could have a number of 6 year players in a couple of years. Be prepared for the excuses for your success being the presence of all those old men on your squad from a couple of fan bases that will remain nameless.
We'll take success whichever way it comes. When I hear excuses, I'll yell scoreboard.

Why does UAB get to sign more than 25?

This question has been asked over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. This question has been answered in at least 20 different threads.

Thanks RowdyRoost, that was a good post.
Looks like most of us at the top did well, and in all honesty, I think we are splitting hairs in saying who has the best class. IMHO none of the recruiting jockeying matters. Most rating agencies consistently miss on guys at our level.
I would like to see what the rating agencies thought about the classes that WKU put together with the core of last years team, because they could ball...and we're every bit a top 25 team. I'm sure their rankings in recruiting were nowhere near the top 25.

So rather than post this tripe "over and over and over,...", just answer the man's question.
Answer: Because the NCAA granted UAB an extra 20 signees of the JuCo variety, since U of Alabama killed their program.

USM has some solid coaches in place right now. Praise to Billy Mac and his staff.

Rivals keeps bouncing between giving UAB credit for all of their signees and only 17 of them. When they give them credit for 37 of them they jump to #1 by points (naturally).

Hope everyones' classes turn out great. Of course this whole "star" thing this or that doesn't really mean squanto as most of us know. Very few high rated recruits for MU were the difference makers historically. Many more no star/1 star guys that ended up in the NFL than the few 4 star "gets" that everyone went apes&^T over. Having said that, on paper it looks like the entire conference beat more cartel teams for players than I've ever seen. Hope most turn out well for all of us.

That is because there are a lot more lower ranked players. By percentage, the higher the stars, the better the odds of making in NFL (or more relevantly, all conference or all American).

I always get a chuckle about signing day pissing contests. (I live in Alabama, after all).
I'm excited about the guys UAB signed. I'm sure Marshall fans are excited about the guys they signed, and so one throughout the conference.
We all know good and well though that all of this doesn't mean squat until they hit the field.

You're right, Smaug. However, I will say that the Yulee kid that signed with us is an absolute scary beast on the field from watching his film. This conference just doesn't get too many 6'3" 250lb linebacker signees out of HS.
I will also be interested to see what our staff does with Xavier Gaines. I'm assuming he'll be a NQ and they said that he will start as a QB, but it will be interesting to see where he ends up. Our DC wants him at safety, our WR coach wants him in his room, or he could bulk up and play TE.

They made it clear he was recruited as an athlete in the livestream. Wouldn't hurt to get a decent kid for a back up, as most top tier guys are gonna stay away from an entrenched starter and standing on the sidelines for 2 or 3 years.
Yulee is a beast, pure and simple. Can make an immediste impact in stopping the run and blitz packages.

Landon has a column in the morning paper that Xavier Gaines; linebacker Jaquan Yulee, running back Jaqua Daniels and slot receiver Willie Johnson are currently non-qualifiers. One or more might end up at prep school or at a junior college?

Yulee is not a NQ. Grades are good and he has to take his ACT/SAT. He could play in 2016

Yes, he is a NQ, or he wouldn't have to take his ACT/SAT again
