Yes.
Wow, now THAT would be cool. I graduated the same year as Majerle from Central Michigan University, and watched him play many times. That dude was a warrior on the court before anyone knew who he was. He proved the PHX fan base wrong when they booed him upon his being drafted.
Hmmm. I didn't expect to see his name come up here, but holy cow, that's a very interesting thought. An NBA great, name recognition, and very likely to leave Grand Canyon to come to Memphis. If Josh were to be dismissed, I'd be beyond thrilled to see this happen.
In his third year at Grand Canyon and has them at 18-2 with a win @ San Diego St and a neutral site win against Houston. He will be a hot commodity very soon.
Cool. IF it came to pass that JP was out, I think a Majerle-type coach would be very intriguing. I'd be all over that.
A former NBA star without any head coach experience is doing well in his first college basketball gig...how can this be?

Most listen to Gary Parrish making sure we know our place in the world!! I bet a lot of those guys would listen hard as long as we aren't trying to go cheap.
Did you forget what happened in 2009? There is a reason why Pastner got the job in the first place....no one else wanted it.
I actually think we are in a better position now. Josh did prove that someone not named Calipari can recruit players to Memphis, even if the pipeline seems to have fizzled a bit.
Plus, no one wanted to follow Cal, they knew the expectations would be outsized and the risk vs reward was not balanced well.
Finally, UConn has proven that you can win a National Championship from this league.

He was an assistant with the Suns for 5 years prior.
Now 3 years as a D-1 head coach.

The reason Josh Pastner got hired is because RC Johnson is a lazy f*** who hit the panic button waaaaaay too soon.
I'll grant you following Cal was not attractive, but following Howdie Doodie will look like Reagan following Carter.

Money matters & because we aren't in a Power 5, we probably can't compete with other schools if they are motivated to keep a coach (Auburn-Pearl).
Facilities & arenas mostly matter for recruiting - these coaches are recruiting fine where they're at. If not, they're winning in spite of it...no need to take the Memphis job to get recruits.
History/tradition doesn't REALLY matter to current success (as we've seen with CJP), unless you're a blueblood. Howland took friggin' Mississippi State...and he's recruiting his butt off there. MOST kids play for coaches, not schools & history.
These coaches have just as much of a chance of winning their current leagues than they do winning the AAC at Memphis...
The only one I give us a shot at is Buzz Williams - VT is a very tough job.
No shot at Buzz. Look at his VT contract. He's guaranteed and making big money. Same as Pearl and Archie and Marshall. The buyouts and salaries will push us into the $6M range for the next 5 years. Not happening.
Probably looking at a good list with the second and third tier. Majerle could be a real possibility.

And that fact has not changed. These coaches knows the record of the program and know that it is a no win situation. The fans expect a non elite program to be at an elite level full time.

RE: THE LIST
Sean Woods would be a really sneaky hire - he's done good things at two places where it is very hard to do good things - Mississippi Valley State and now Morehead State. Plays a very aggressive style that he learned as the PG of the Unforgettables under Rick Pitino at Kentucky.
Doesn't have a great career mark because both jobs were massive rebuilds and doesn't have a great postseason mark for the same reasons, but he turned around MVSU (7 wins in year one to 21 wins and an NCAA appearance in year 4) and he's been grinding at Morehead - just hasn't had the break through campaign yet (he also took over after Tyndall and has had to work with the NCAA sanctions).

That's because no coach in his right mind would have wanted to follow Cal after that 4 year run and have to live up to the ridiculous standards many of our fans would have put on him.
