Of course, sometimes the best candidate is already here...does anyone recall the last real search we had here at UT? Would it have been when Tricia Cullop was hired? Or was there one for Track & Field/CC? If I remember correctly, O'Brien targeted TK specifically, and the same happened for both Campbell and then Candle...

Actually, O'Brien did a search prior to hiring TK. I remembered that former Rice coach Willis Wilson was one of the leading candidates. I did a Google search and found a Blade article about the coaching search. According to the article, Willis Wilson and former OU coach Larry Hunter interviewed for the job in addition to TK.

I remember Buzz Peterson's name was bandied about at one time but nothing ever came of that and Gene Cross was eventually hired. Peterson was a player on the 1982 National Championship Carolina team that featured Michael Jordan, James Worthy and Sam Perkins. Peterson had been fired as head coach at Tennessee at the time and was looking around. He ultimately ended up at UNC-Wilmington but he was also fired from there a year or so ago, so he might not have been a good choice anyway, although he lasted longer and presumably did less damage at UNC-W than Cross did here.

This is a huge relief! Though losing Brad Underwood was very difficult, I think Keller has what it takes to do a very fine job at SFA. He certainly has the credentials and the experience. Hope he is able to continue what Underwood started.
