Dawkins got Stanford into the NCAA once in 8 years. Although that may not sound too bad to a lot of fans of mid-major schools, it is a pretty poor record for a member of a major conference where about 1/3 to 1/2 of the conference gets an invitation every year.

If anything, the disparity between the "haves" and the "have nots" in collegiate basketball is at least equal to (and probably even greater) than the disparity between the P5 and G5 conferences in collegiate football.

Stanford missed the NCAA Tournament 7 times in the Mike Montgomery and Trent Johnson eras (1986 to 2008). They missed the NCAA Tournament 7 times in the 8 years that Dawkins was the coach.
