Congratulations Texas State!
Texas State: Per source, Dennis Franchione plans to retire later this week. Bruce Feldman with FoxSports has reported that Fran will step down as well.

Per Footballscoop

I know this will probably make some of the Bobcat faithful happy and maybe the new hire won't be in the hands of Teis

Not that I'm not happy, but if Larry Teis is still here I have no confidence in our ability to hire a quality replacement.

I'm sad to see him go. We had a fun game this year.

Great news even though it's late. Still hate our AD. The Texas Tech coach that Bowling Green hired wants to come to TXST but we took too long. Hope we make a good hire and move on.

Yeah, best coaches available right now are probably FCS head coaches. It will be hard to poach a P5 coordinator this late in the process

RE: Congratulations Texas State!
Since his son has now graduated TxSt could do well with looking at Huesman at UTC. He has helped that program not have up and down years. They've been pretty solidly good since he showed up. And he's never beaten App. So Win/Win.

Or if you want to get into the head of App's QB go for Lamb. He's a former HC at Furman and now the HC at Mercer. Good dude too.

Since it has been sourced that Fran told Teis last Tuesday it was probably the plan....hire some FCS guy so we don't have to pay big bucks, have a built in excuse (due to lateness of announcement) for lack of time to do a search and gives Larry another out if he doesn't get a great hire (that we're going to be stuck with) and Larry can give himself another raise sighting the big bucks he saved the U.

FCS head coach isn't the worst hire. Just want someone young and looking to do big things. If he's hired in a year or two away from the program, that's a good sign.

Huesman and Lamb would be good bets but they're not young. Huesman is 55 and Lamb is 52. But both know their stuff.

Grass at JSU is 47 but his previous experience isn't has strong as Huesman and Lamb.

Just Keeler from SAM. He's 56 but has the drive and energy.

Man..

The timing of this is just not good for Texas State in all of this. The fact that there was already a ton of HC movement prior to this in CFB the choices are limited as far as potential hires. Add into this the recruiting dead period and the need to get a hire done and on the ground running and I dont have any confidence in the overall quality of the search.

It's kind of par for anything Teis does. It was the same way when they hired Fran.

Craptastic. Teis needs to be beaten with an ugly-stick.

The whole thing smacks of ineptness and-or just not giving a rat's rear about the program.

Congrats to Texas State :) I know CatMom is happy!

And don't knock older coaches - what is the average stay at a Sun Belt school anyways? 3-5 years? Either fired or move on if successful.
Bruce Arians was thought to be too old at 60 when the Arizona Cardinals hired him. Only won 10,11 and 12 games so far, and has two assistants that were born during the Depression.
