Yahoo Sports Wijnners and Losers this week
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-s...10457.html
Georgia State: Georgia State needed a win over Georgia Southern on Saturday to clinch a sixth win and bowl eligibility. The Panthers were three-score underdogs, but showed that Vegas doesn’t know everything in a dominating 34-7 win. Nick Arbuckle threw for 346 yards in the win to help his team reach a bowl game for the first time in program history. Georgia State started the season 2-6, but reeled off wins in its final four games to reach 6-6.
.
Arkansas State: The Red Wolves defeated Texas State 51-17 on Saturday to complete an undefeated run through its conference slate and capture its third outright Sun Belt Conference title.
Arkansas State is one of two programs in the conference to win three outright titles (2011, 2012, 2015). During that span, the Red Wolves have won 33 of 39 conference games.
“We want to win one more but we're going to enjoy this one a little bit,” coach Blake Anderson said. “To go undefeated in this league, as good of football as being played. The guys did a great job."
Arkansas State also set a couple records during the Texas State win. Money Hunter had a 99-yard interception for touchdown, which was the second-longest in school history. And quarterback Fredi Knighten set the school and Sun Belt record for points in a single season.
Losers:
Louisiana-Lafayette: Saturday was not a good day to be a Louisiana-Lafayette fan. The Ragin Cajuns lost at home to Troy in blowout fashion – a 41-17 decision after a 24-0 lead. The game was so bad that fans started playing beer pong in the stands just to pass the time. Ouch.

I see now it is good I don't use yahoo for information and news. Terrible information on A-State. Didn't even get the score correct.
Fredi Knighten didn't set the record for points scored in a season - it is a team record - although he did score the TD that tied the record - PAT broke it.
The 99 yard TD interception return was the longest in school history, not the 2nd longest.
LONGEST INTERCEPTION RETURNS
1. 96, Gordon Freeman vs St. Mary (Kan.), 1963
T2. 95, Darrell Baker vs UNLV, 1995
T2. 95, Chappell Mitchell vs SW La., 1996
4. 94, Money Hunter vs Toledo, 2014
5. 92, Tyrell Johnson vs Fla. Int’l, 2005
6. 87, Terry Whiting vs Abilene Christian, 1973
7. 85, Koby McKinnon vs Fla. Int’l, 2005
T8. 75, Demario Davis vs Iowa, 2009
75, Al Johnson vs Memphis St., 1990

Reading the ULL board is pretty fun. Almost as fun as reading the Ga Southern board.
"my 1 year old has started clapping for Troy touchdowns. I guess you can't blame her. Its exciting watching other teams play us."

There's enough "nuggets" in thread titles alone, without even having to see what's said in the threads:

HAHA... this one was truly golden:
Parting shot from Trent Miles in AJC article......
“It took them 34 years to go to their first bowl. It took us six.”
Locker room material for next year? The rivalry has begun!

Problem with that is that you don't get to Bowls in FCS. What a stupid remark. It took GS 2 years in FBS to get there (technically they qualified their 1st year but weren't eligible).
Look, I think GS fans are slightly delusional (at times) in thinking they will be the top dog every year in the SBC because of their FCS history, that 8-4 is a rallying cry for firing their coach and they're a horrendous team but Miles is just wrong saying that.

between the 6 unsportsmanlike conduct/personal foul calls on them in the first half, and seeing players and coaches shooting the middle finger to the fans, a comment like that doesn't surprise me coming from him.

I have it on good authority that Georgia Southern played in the 1986 Diamond Bowl in Tacoma, Washington.

And SWT/TXSTs 2 DII NCs were called the Palm Bowl. Doesn't make a crap load of difference in FBS.

Sorry, next time we will leave the banner at home and just try to jump your team when they leave the locker room, and flick off your fans.
Stay classy, state.

These guys can't help but keep whining. You think they'd bow out at a certain point, given that their fanbase/team has no claim on ANY moral high ground, whatsoever. But no. They just keep it up, looking sillier and sillier.
Don't quit now, guys! (Your football team certainly quit in the fourth quarter yesterday. If only some of the posters on here, like your team, would realize when they should be demoralized enough to lie down and give up.)

I have heard enough stories about what was said from the stands to the team including what was said about Nick4's mother. Nothing surprising.

I agree, but I see what point he's trying to make. They've been the butt of a lot of jokes so I don't blame him for trying to make one himself.

Yeah, Coach is certainly smart enough to recognize why they didn't reach a bowl while in FCS. I'm fine with him taking a minor shot like that after turning around a program that's seen so much disrespect hurled at it.

RE: Yahoo Sports Wijnners and Losers this week
Every start up in the history of college football has used that turn of phrase when they get a big win (and big wins are inevitable). FIU, FAU, and USA are no strangers to the "we did in five years what took you 100 years" phrase.
When you have a market-driven golden ticket to FBS football, you have a set of circumstances they rest of us did not. Yes, it is difficult to start a football program from scratch, but the rest of us had to begin at the real starting line, not ten feet from finish.
The rest of us realize that start-up success is nothing special, despite what USA fans (and others) will tell you. None of them have folded shop and gone home. Almost all of them, if not every one of them have had moderate to high levels of success within their first ten years. It is tough, but not a Herculean odyssey.
6-6 whether you're GSU or USA is pretty common among startups within ten years. It's not a miracle, it's a product of being able to recruit at an FBS level from the get go, with a free golden ticket.

I get what you're saying, and agree with most of it. However, I will never agree that going from scratch to 6-6 season and going to a bowl game is not special. Sure, some things are easier when we know our FBS timeline. We can tell recruits we will play at the highest level of football much earlier. I agree with that argument. At the same time, we didn''t have, and still don't have, the facilities that our competition has had for years. We have to bring visiting recruits to Ladd Stadium.....We don't have D2/D3/FCS national championship banners to catch their attention. We are slowly building fan/city support. We don't have traditions that are built over years or generations of alumni who support and develop the program. We don't have players on NFL rosters or in the NFL Hall of Fame to brag about to recruits. While we have some advantages, there are just as many things working against us.
